Default [video] Using iPhone 4 as DVR / Redline k-band off axis

I have an iPhone 4 that the front screen is shattered that I cant sell, so I decided to turn it into a DVR for my car. I found an app for $4.99 that actually has good quality. I ended up jailbreaking it so I could install tweaks that would start the recording when the car started and went to sleep after it turns off. It records in 10 minute segments, so you can see the 3 second break in recordings in the video.

Also the redline does great with the off axis K band

Great use for an out of service iPhone! I use an old cell phone for my car cam as well.

What are all of the tweaks you use for it to power on and record? I didn't know it can do that.

    Nice video and setup!

If you jailbreak it you can get an app called Activator. It can set the phone to turn on and unlock it when its charging (ie the cars on) and start recording. Then when it stops charging (car is turned off), it will go to sleep.

Wow, activator is amazing! I got it with sbsettings. (I'm on 4.3.2 with Redsn0w.)

Never suspected activator, i was thinking you were using one of the complicated scheduler apps haha. Awesome use of the iPhone!

You should set it to record in HD.

I did for a little while (I just did all of this today), but it would have ate up space fast. 10 minutes of HD is 760mb, compared to 480p which is 257mb. I have about 14Gb free on the phone. I suppose it gives you more time than I thought (like 3 hours), which is more than enough.. Plus this app has a save button that will instantly saves it to an "Incidents" folder and it wont get re-written when the phone gets full.

Here is how I currently have it setup. Obviously I still have some asthetic issues to take care of with my "DVR," but its a work in progress
