My 985 does just the opposite. If I forget to turn it off, it will act up the next time I start my car. It powers up normally, then after a few seconds it goes crazy on K band! It gives a full strength K band warning for about 30 seconds. Powering it off and turning it back on fixes the problem.

My accesory powers on and off with the car, but I just don't trust it. Again my 985 does not seem to have a problem, but I have noticed that if I key the power and start the car with a full quick turn I do get some power surge to the RD and there is a small pop sounf from the RD speaker, but if I start the car with a normal turn of the key, no problems. I believe HighVoltage chimed into a discussion long ago and explained alot of things. One of the things I discovered is that at least our older Bels are NOT CE compliance electrical approved, I look all over for the nottation and nothing. Its not a big deal but I have formed the habit to just power off/on manualy. To lazy to add in a simple switch of my own, you know how awkward that button is especially when the RD is hanging high, but now I am very use to it (not worried ripping it off the windshield, lol).

welcome. yeah, that sounds good, just unplug/plug in the lighter plug after the car is started.

yesterday i was playing with my wiring setup. i was testing a new unit that turns any constant 12v source into an automatic switched source. it's off, until you start the car, then it senses the voltage change and turns itself on, and when you shut off the car it senses the change and shuts itself off.
    pretty cool little gadget.
right now i have all my stuff running through a "master switch" that is always on. i would like that option, but something that converts it to an ACC switch, without the surge of startup.

Anyway, i put my SR7's to voltage display, and even though they are hardwired to the constant source, when i started the vehicle, they actually "blipped" low voltage momentarily. they didn't shut off or resart, just flashed that for a brief moment.
when i have the display set to the scanning symbol, it doesn't even show that quick blip.

normally i start my car, then turn everything on, but if i shut it off to say gas up, i usually leave the switch on, and then just re-start my truck. this doesn't seem to affect anything, but from now on i will make sure to always turn the switch off until after the vehicle is started. better safe than sorry.

just from reading the replies here, it seems this may be a bigger issue than we think. maybe this would explain the occasional poor performance or inconsistency some people have reported on alerts and performance?

hello RacerX yes it sounds like this is a big issue. i am happy you are giveing us good info in this issue keep us postted more if you find or notice something else.now about me i dont no if its safe i was saying about unpluging the cig from the socket but now i think twice cause it kinda makes a PoPING noise when i do pulg the cig cord back in the socket and i also notice the some sparks of fire burst out which scared the crap outof me  i rather trun the knob on and off i guess but its safer i guess?.also YES i also think this can cause a v1 to act up and get very poor performance and other bad stuff if the v1 is not powered of right. also if i stop for gas i keep thev1 on when i start my car. it seems to only effect the v1 when car is off more than 10 min so if i am parking my car more than 10 min i will trun the v1 off bye knob you think it sounds good?

oh hell, you're gonna set your V1 on fire!

i'm thinking when you get around to wiring that switch, get a new socket and wire it in, that one doesn't sound too good.

yeah, for now stick with the knob.

once i do more testing i'll let everyone know about that adapter.
