Weak K and full Ka from 1 LEO

Yesterday driving alone on my side of the freeway, I received a weak K alert with the bogey lit at 1. Less than a second later the bogey lock tone souned off and the counter went to 2 and Ka blasted at full strength. Both K and Ka were lit up.

I quickly slowed down and scanned the horizon for anything. Sure enough less than a mile away coming towards me on the other side of the freeway was a white state trooper without a roof light bar. The V1 remained at 2 bogeys with both K and Ka lit but only Ka sounding.

It's weird to me, but Is it possible to receive two legitimate radar bands from the same LEO? FYI, I'm running 3.826 with no notable problems in the past since upgrading.

Could a Cobra Radar detector been hanging around?? Or another radar detector? I dont think they would have 2 radars in 1 car. Even so, it doesn't explain why one was full and other was weak.

I believe it was another radar detector.

You could have been picking up a newly installed K band door opener or motion sensor.

Some Unidung RDs will cause X or K band false alarms on your V1, and they can be quite strong! Uniden should have made radar jammers out of them LOL!

With some radars you can get a K band and Ka band antenna, but with most you cannot run both front and rear antennas at the same time.

It could have been a form of ghosting, I see this with my V1 sometimes, with K band LEOs. Sometimes I'll get a second, weaker Ka when I'm near the source. However, the K is always stronger in this case.

Considering you picked up the K first, maybe it was a door opener or something else, and then you picked up the LEO on Ka.

No door openers. I live in the middle of the desert. The closest sign of civilization was miles away. There's almost no chance of me picking up another detector too as the nearest cars were at least 1/2 mile away. That's why I'm so puzzled.

Half mile ain't that far to pick-up another radar detector. It coulda been one coming at you behind the cop possibly?

Really? My Cobra (:x) will only set off my bro-inlaw's X50 from less than 15 feet away.

or perhaps a leo behind a mesquite you missed??

I think I know this example of ghosting but usually it's only when I'm right up against a source. And this has only happened to me once. I have yet to post up videos. It's been almost a year :-x

I saw a speed sign that was running K band so I drove right up to it. It screamed K at me and every so often I'd get a KA out of it or maybe another K. And at times it's read absolutely nothing and I'd get all sorts of haywire readings from the sign. And then it'd shoot full again with the ghosts. It was a really interesting video I shot at night. should post it sometime
