Bad day trying to get something accomplished w/ my v1 . . .
Okay . . I woke up this morning w/ 1 goal in mind. Get my v1 hard wired. I put the harness on last night, so the only thing I had to do today was run the wire. Here is how we went. Oh yeah, I forgot to say that I messed up and cut my black and orange wire at the same time. . . blowing the car fuse to the Accessory outlets - GO ME!! and yet. . . this was just the beginning.
Started running cat5e wire. . about 35 minutes in, I realized that its too fat to slip the side by the door to get it to the ceiling... pull out wire. I go to grab some telephone wire, I cut off the one end, flip the wire and than test it w/ the v1 on the hardwire kit. For some reason - there went that fuse. I figured wth and tried it in the ciggy there went that one. It took me awhile to figure out it was the fuse, because I took the normal cords and couldn't get my v1 to turn on. sooo find the box. Change both the fuses and plugged the normal cords in. I felt a brief sigh cuz I didn't want to mess up the v1. Continuing on . . I got both new fuses in - rewired the phone cord to make sure it wasn't backwards or anything. . and yet again - another fuse goes buh bye. Now - I quit. . because I don't know wtf is causing this error and I ain't gonna try to blow the 4th fuse, cuz then I'm done until I order more, or find somewhere around here that carries them.
On that note, anyone know of a chain store that carries the fuses that the v1 takes?? Also, what could I be doing wrong?
Here is what I did w/ the tele wiring.
One End (clip facing down)
B R G Y
Second End (clip facing down)
Y G R B
sigh . . please help
Auto sparky come's to mind dude. If you dont know dont do. Take it to the guy's who do. Sorry to sound like your Dad but i have been down your road before and at the end of the day i didnt know s4it and the auto sparky fixed it before it got any worse. good luck man
Well the thing is, I know its in the wiring from the hardwire to the device. I just can't figure it out. Was the tele wiring correct?? or am I reading something wrong?? When I plug the given cord in, it works - when I stick mine it - the fuse blows - thats how I know its my wiring of the tele device. I just don't know where I went wrong at. . .
RS sells those 1 amp fuses but they come in fast and slow burn out, I chose fast burn out.
Cut your wire and reverse the end with a new phone clip, even though you think it is right, it is most likely wrong. (happened to me before)
Hot lead tester for searching the right fuse (might need zip code)
So color wise. . can someone give me the colors in the order . . when both clips are down , left to right.
Was my thinking wrong up there^^^ or I really am confused.
I can give you what Jim wrote about which wire is which for a remote mute location but my colored wires or coiled cord is at work.
Like I said just get more fuses and connectors and reverse it.
Oh try this: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec80.shtml
I'll have to do this tomorrow. . hopefully RS has a few I can buy. Anything else that could have caused it, other than reversed wires?
btw, appreciate your help.
i dont know the colours but what you can do is use a multi meter on ohm's to see if your wires are reversed!!!
then you will know if your tele wiring is at fault...
When I first hardwired a V1, I had the second clip reversed because I was not paying close attention. The V1 wouldn't work, but no fuses were blown.
From what I am reading, it seems like there is a short somewhere in your cord. Since the wires are so small (at least with telephone cord) there could possibly be a strand that is touching between two or more wires and it is difficult to see. You could check it with an Ohmmeter if you have one handy.
Did you plug your cord in without the V1 connected, and did it still blow a fuse?
The first place to start would be as someone else suggested. Replace the clip. You may want to cut off a small section of the cord before you replace the clip. If that doesn't work replace the other clip. Reversing the order of wiring in one clip relative to the other one is correct.
Re: Bad day trying to get something accomplished w/ my v1 .
Dude, I feel your pain. I hate when what seems like a simple thing turns out so wrong. As for the colors, you have them correct. Another way to look at it is to put the cable ends nose to nose with the clip up and the colors should be the same. That small phone cord is hard to work with. I have a crip tool all the ends, have wired my house with cat5 and still took the easy way out and bought a proper rj11 cord from RS. I just know that the weak link here will be the crimped on end and I just didn't want to worry about it. The RS black cord something like 12 ft so I have a bunch of it bundled in a coid and zip tied under the dash.
