    Default Where to mount V1?

My V1 just arrived today, but I've been fiddlin' around with where to mount it. I'd like to mount it up high, as I have a concealed display on the way from lifespeed. Here's my dilemma:

The visor is no good. It flips up and won't rest horizontal.

Above the mirror doesn't work. The windshield has the factory dot matrix tinting, and I can't get the suction cups to stick.

I had my Passport 8500 mounted on top of my instrument cluster, but I didn't have rear radar detection, so that's out.

Am I stuck with under the rear view mirror, or is there a way to remove the factory dot matrix tinting on the windshield? That stuff is as tough as diamonds!

I feel like I'm doing Chinese math here. :?

Under the rear view mirror is the best for you, it's already high enough, you would not loose any radar detection for putting it there. Enjoy your V1 8)

Yup. I tried using an x-acto. I'll see if I can do a little more "research" without totally damaging the window or myself.

I wonder if you could hot glue or silicon the suction cups up there.

No no, leave it up. It will help hide the V1. I have the same thing and the dots stop just above the rear view mirror. The V1 hangs just below the dots and above the mirror. Its a snug fit, but it works well. I'm not having any problems getting mine suction cups to stay on, so mine might be flatter. You can get the suction cups to grip either by applying a small piece of clear contact paper (its actually vinyl) or use some clear silcone calking. I prefer the calking as its stronger, and will clean up better if you have to remove it.

i think you can get a tint shop to wet sand it with a fine grit paper, they shouldnt scratch your window. my mazda3 has the same thing. i think what im gonna do is get it sanded down and a tint strip done across the top. what is a good % of tint to go with for my v1?

Some pics. Note the V1 is mounted in the same position for all three shots. The third pic is a crop of the second pic focused on the window for a better view of the V1.

Thanks for all your help guys. I think i'm going to try the silicone caulk trick in the interim. If that doesn't pan out, I'll take it to a tint shop.

    Again, thanks.

P.S. I passed a Tyrone, GA LEO today on HWY 74 southbound and my V1 alerted me about 1400-1500ft to his laser. He was sitting perpendicular to the hwy just firing away as I came around a slight rh bend. VEIL should be here today or tomorrow.

The V1 picked up the laser far faster than my 8500 ever did.
