i doubt it because mike v can always re-apply for the patent.
People have wondered about this in a few threads....Originally Posted by inmahyt

According to Wikipedia, for patents that were in force by June 8, 1995, the patent term is either 17 years from the issue date or 20 years from the earliest claimed filing date, the longer term applying.
I believe V1's earliest "directional origin" patent (5083129) was filed February 25, 1991, and granted January 21, 1992. This would mean that this patent would expire on February 25, 2011 since the longer term applies.
So you have about 5 years yet...

Actually, I don't believe this is true. He can't apply for the exact same patent. He might try some engineering/legal maneuvering, but that's not a lock and could/would be fought by competitors.Originally Posted by againstme!
A patent success story
Today I am truly proud of the patent system. The block-buster drug Zocor (simvastatin) has transitioned off-patent and into the world of generics. Unlike other areas of IP law, patents really are valid only for “limited Times” and when those years have passed the property right evaporates — leaving the inventions “free as the air to common use.” (In the words of Justice Brandeis).

What about cardinal dots ?
Is a patent protects the process or the general idea or the means ?
One thing is sure = you need a lot $ to protect a patent.
I built my-self a miniature heater to avoid frost in my home windows during winter time , it avoided to change my windows , cost few dollars to run/make , lasts for years , too bad cant applied this idea to the rd world...
The makers of Zocor have just been given the green light by the FDA to sell it's product in generic form. I take Zocor.
