Antenna Change from 1.7 to 1.8?

Everyone knows that the V1 cases size is smaller in 1.8 compared to 1.7. Did the antenna design also change?

A lot of forum members comment that V1 (hardware 1.8) does not do as well around corners on Ka band compared to the high end belscorts.

I remember my 1.7 spanking the BEL on Ka band radars facing me from 90 degree angles. But I did no such comparison with my 1.8 yet. I was just wondering if there was a change to the antenna with 1.8 that lowered it's ability to detect radar at sharp angles on Ka band.

I know this really isn't the awnser you are looking for (as it doesn't awnser your question)... but (just incase you haven't though of this):

You could call VR and simply talk to a tech for ~30seconds and ask... that you are just curious if the antenna(s) changed from 1.7>1.8 (or what are the main differences in the 1.7&1.8 designs, I am sure certain things (laser) will be brought up), but as far as antenna they can awnser you a simply yes/no question. I don't think they would mind to much as the design switch from 1.7>1.8 happened years ago and its not like it is something late-breaking in the RD community. (Just a thought)

I am sure some users like V1 Dave (and others) who have had V1's for ages may be able to tell you.

I can't find the pictures of the 1.7 antenna but here is the 1.8
Where you see the prism like laser diode was still all radar horn on the 1.7
The 1.7 had six laser diodes on the bottom 1/4" of the taller case.
The whole bottom 1/4" case on a 1.7 was dedicated to laser circuitry.

Well, the antenna is definitely changed compared to 1.7. I don't have a picture of 1.7 handy, but as I recall the antenna on 1.7 was quite a bit wider than what I see on 1.8. Thanks for the pics.

my friends v1.7 is very good at sniffing out the i think it was a salker dual ka band radar cause his v1 allways ghost out with 2 boges on stalker radar for some reason.
one time when i was rideing with him his v1 gave him a 4 mile detection range.
he drives a ford explore his v1 mounted way up in the blue tint it was wild cause i even turn his v1 off at one ponit cause it lastted for some time i thought his v1 was locked up on ka band .for some reason i think his v1 is better on ka detection than my v1.826 something tells me the v1.7 has it better in in range at times. cause the best range i have gotten on ka band is 1.6mile with a motorjock with a kustom talon ka radar gun.
