    Default New Member... V1 Tinkering

Hello all, I've only just discovered this forum but have been tinkering with my V1 for a while, I do have a question though.

Up until a couple of weeks ago my V1 would go nuts at the mall up the street, up to 8 alerts at a time from all the door sensors. Now, even in "A" All bogey mode it is silent. I have had a couple of X Band alerts and some laser but no K or Ka at all. Do you know if there's any way I can test it?

The only think I changed was that I switched wires, the one I was using for the remote display and the one for the main unit. Both are original cables though so I'd have thought it should be fine?

For those that might be interested I've just finished a three month on and off project to custom mount my remote display, pictures below:

    and

The V1 is on a bracket by the rear windshield (two seater car) as shown here:

The connector and mute switches are in the back of the mirror:

Porsche Boxster, the mirror (this one at least) is Boxster specific. I've done two, one is in my car the other is on ebay. I'm looking at trying some others but need to get some cash back first, I want to try a Cayenne one next probably.

Mirrors get expensive once you've done this to a few...

/worships ukchris "we're not worthy..." we being me and my multiple personalities . Those mirror mounts, wow  that's all I can say, that's how awesome those are...

Oh and as for the detector not working properly, either it fell out of tune, which VR should be able to fix for cheap (if not free) but before I'd call em I'd make sure the V1 unit is pulled into the "Main" plug and not the "Accessory" plug on either the Direct Wire Adapter or the Cigarette Lighter Adapter, and the Remote Display into the Accessory plug. As for switching which wire went to what that shouldn't matter at all. In fact for my setup I ran out of wires, and had to use the coiled cord to plug my Remote Audio into the Direct Wire adapter

I knew it was a Boxster, a youngster at my school has one with a crapra on the windshield and i told him if you put suction cups on that windshield it is going to ruin it. 2 weeks later i see his car again, no RD and marking on his windshield.... seems like i knew more about his car then he did.

KSU V1 - Thanks, tomorrow I'll try it in the cig lighter instead of hard wired and see if it is any different, if not, off to VR it goes!

xXCriticizeXx - I had mine on the windshield for a while but just hated the look from outside, it didn't mark the windshield though, or nothing that invisible glass wouldn't polish off. I felt it was too obvious and shouted "Steal Me" so I fabricated the mount to go between the seats instead. It's out of the way, had a good view and is fairly inconspicuous too.

oh btw the escort user manual(and others too) it clearly states some porsches have the anti lacerative(spelled wrong) material and it will parmently damage it if using the little suction cups, i wonder how much PORSCHE dealer will charge him to replace it, at least $1K that's for sure

Was it especially high up, by the anti-glare strip? Mine was directly behind the mirror and slightly to the right. I guess different model years may be different too. Sucks whichever way you look at it.
