Default Texas Tech and Texas A&M Weekend Roadtrip Report

This weekend I drove 913.1 miles round trip from Lubbock to College Station, Texas. 12 Texas State Troopers on the way down, it was unbelievable how many we saw. I found myself a little posse following me down 84 which I don't mind at all as long as they keep their distance. Which they did.

There was one instance where I got a one-second Ka alert and then nothing for atleast a mile. I slowed as soon as V1 chirped, and got down to the limit and into the right lane. My followers apparently had had enough of that, and the leader attempted to pass me in the fast lane. We exchanged friendly glances, and I pointed "ahead" with my finger and then to my V1. He lit up with a smile and laughed, and pulled in behind me again. Sure enough the text-book TXDPS speed trap was ahead, just over a hill facing away from traffic in the break down lane. We proceeded with little traffic.

I thought I got a ticket as well in another instance. I was passing a truck at around 85 mph and crested a hill. Not one of my finer moments in RD.nut history. He was facing traffic this time just over the hill in the median between an exit ramp and I-20. I saw him before he saw me, and braked effectively before the onslaught of Ka band radiation.

The trip home took a much longer time because of the fact that I was following a Trooper from 300 miles outside of Lubbock back into town. He was doing 77 the whole way home. Of course, everyone else braked hard and dove for the slow lane when they saw him in their rearview, so traffic was very light. I kept my distance but he wasn't running radar at all. Not even at oncoming traffic. The one interesting highlight of this story is the fact that everytime I dared to stray within a quarter mile of his bumper, I would get lit up. My friend with an equally impressive Red X50 kept calling me asking if I was still following that Trooper because he kept getting instant on alerts two miles behind me.

    Good hunting. Drive Safe.

Indeed it was. I will say this about the Aggies, y'all are very hospitable; we felt at home around everyone. Very polite and friendly.
