    Default Volume is constantly muted?

This morning my V1 started to have some audio volume problem. All volume (be it the startup tune or real radar alerts) is of the muted volume instead of the regular volume controlled by the main lever. In other words, I can control the loudness any alert with the muted volume lever while the main volume lever DOES NOT control the volume in ANY way. It's as if the volume is constantly muted and if I press in the button again, the volume gets even quieter!!!

It WAS NOT like this before, and it just started to happen like this today.

Btw, I made sure I was in "A" mode (so none of the alerts should get muted by default) and every setting is at factory defaults.

    Anybody experienced something similar?

AirMoore had a problem with his but I think that it slipped notches and was just off alignment.
Sounds like you need it serviced, send it in second day air and it will be back in one week.
    What version is it?
How many J alerts do you get, once a month or so or more?
    Ever got an E alert?

    Hi V1 Dave,

I have version 3.851. I have had it for almost 4 months and have not experienced a single J nor E.

The only other problem I have is the ghosting on K and Ka A single CHP would give 3-4 bogey counters at close range on Ka. While driving by a K band speed trap, it will sometimes give 1 and sometimes 2 bogey counters.

Any specific instructions for shipping back to VR for repairs? I am going to call them Monday and ask, but it's also good to have some expectations beforehand. Guess I should also try searching. Thanks.

Just put a note in the box as I believe that is what VR will tell you, with phone number and what is wrong,
I used to send mine post office with tracking but some say risky because insurance is optional.
DHL and Fed Ex are supposed to be cheap but I have not tried them however I believe that last time mine came back from VR it was second day Fed Ex as VR ships it back same as you ship (as in days)
No ghosting here, man I wish they could get that right.
When I had my 3.818 last year no Ka ghosting but K was bad.
They do good work and will tune it up.
Reason I asked about J's is seems that us Ca don't get much of them for some reason but you talk to OH users and it is several per day, weird.

Does the button work? Can you switch between A/l/L by holding it down? Maybe it's stuck. If you can switch modes, then something's broken in the V1. Send it to VR and they'll take care of it for you.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Yup, the buttom works. I can switch between A/l/L by holding it down. I also tried it with different power cord but that also didn't help.

Must I include the power cord when sending the unit to VR? My power cord is deeply mangled within the car's interior and it would be quite a hassle to take it out.

No, don't bother they just want the unit!
If they said power cords then they mean other people that have power problems, you obviously have a switch problem.
About the PM just send a note as that is all they will tell you on the phone.
Don't forget to mention the ghosting problem as well.

Thanks EasY E, that sounds very similar to the problem that I am having.

I sent the unit back to VR this morning (Next Day USPS Express Mail) with a note of this problem and the heavy ghosting. Hopefully I will get it back by the end of the week. Will report back when I get the unit back.

    before you send it back,
try a different power cord, the pwer cord also uses 2 wires for data to the Concealed display and audio adapter, if it is "Mangled" like you said, you just might have a short in the cord causing this.

Or something even easier, do you have anything covering the hole on the left side of the case? this is where the sound comes from and anythingcovering that will quet it down.
