Default Just got my new V1, 3.858

The V1 I ordered on Monday just arrived. I took it out to the car to get the firmware #. It's 3.858.

After I do some comparisons between the 3.813 I've been using with the new one, I'll send the 3.813 out for a tune-up. Then, where it goes is anyone's guess. Maybe I'll sell it privately, or on you know where, or loan it to GOL for testing.

One nice thing VR did... they shipped FedEx 2 day when I requested UPS ground. So I got it a day sooner than expected.

Guess I'll go for a little spin at lunch. Now I'm up to date for my Thanksgiving trip to my sister's in CT. Just hope it doesn't do the "E" thing.

Same here, I ordered mine ground and they shipped it FedEx 2 day. Received it last Monday. It also has 3.858. Haven't had any problems, no "E's". Have gotten about 4 "J's", with one a visible Cobra in the car next to me. The others were on the freeway, one was at night with no cars around!!

    kpatz,
That 3.813 you have is perhaps the best attempt V1 ever made at perfection. I had that version for a while then gave it to my wife when I got 3.826. I still like hers better than my 3.826 in regards to false alerts. Ka range seems identical to my 3.826. Also, 3.813 has the older light sensor which dims the display more at night which I like since I don't use a remote display. Makes it more stealthy. I would be reluctant to let that version go, but that's just my opinion.

Buz, that's one of the reasons I bought a new one instead of upgrading the .813. Also, I wanted to make a comparison, and didn't want to be without the V1 during the holiday week next week, since there's a possibility my .813 is going out of tune.

Also, that way I have a fallback if I get hit with the dreaded "E" (with my luck).

Anywho, I took the new V1 out for a spin at lunch. It seemed to pick up the usual falses about as equally as my old one. I can't tell for sure yet but I think the "L" mode works a bit better at weeding out X falses. On my old one I ended up turning X off completely because it was driving me nuts even in L mode. The .858 one seemed to cut them down quite a bit more. I'll know for sure when I'm back in Manchester with their 200-watt X band traffic light sensors.

I encountered a Salem LEO with K band on during my trip, and the .858 detected him pretty much the same as the .813. I did notice though, when I drove past him, I got no ghosting like I did with the .813. I haven't encountered any LEOs running Ka yet.

I tested laser with my JTW tester and that worked fine, maybe a little easier to trigger with the tester than my old V1.

I even drove into Lawrence/Methuen and then jumped on 93 North and saw a NH statey in the median just over the border, and was thinking, oh goody, a laser trap! No such luck, he was just sitting there watching traffic.

So I've confirmed the new V1 works (for X and K at least). I'll have to do some more comparisons over the next few days. I'm hoping the speed sign that gave my old V1 a conniption fit the other day is still there, I'll take an alternate route home to drive past it.

    KPATZ,

Add me to the list of Valentine 1 owners, who is also considering the new 3.858. Like yourself, I currently own the 3.813...which has worked like a charm.

As you make your comparisons between the 3.858 and 3.813, please continue to share your results. I'm sure there are alot of forum members who are interested!

Start of day 2 with 3.858. Not much new to report, encountered a K bogey to the rear in Manchester, must have been a LEO way back since I didn't see him. The arrows seem to be more stable than on my .813, they don't seem to jump around as much.

It looks like the logic-mode filtering for X band has been improved. X falses that slipped through on the old one are being filtered on the new one. This makes it more pleasant to drive in town without having to turn X off completely. So, if you live in an area that uses X, .858 is a worthwhile upgrade.

I still haven't encountered any LEOs running Ka, but I did grab my Stalker ATR this morning and shot it, and it detected fine. It seemed to respond faster to the initial shot than my old V1. I didn't see any ghosting or two-arrows-with-one-bogey glitches like I commonly had with the .813. Thumbs up to VR for that. I haven't had any Crapra falses either, yet, even though I saw a Crapra in a car passing me on the highway. So no "J"s yet.

So far, .858 is working great, and some improvements over my old .813, in filtering, arrows, and bogey counter.

I disagree - they take things into account. I'm a 1 day ground shipping thru UPS - so why would they 2 day fedex it to me? They wouldn't - its stupid. Basically they try to get it to you in 2 days, or less if at all possible.

Day 3 with 3.858. This seems to be a solid unit. I've encountered LEOs running K and Ka and not had so much as a single ghost or incorrect "J". The arrows are more stable than on my .813.

Yesterday I had a couple weak Ka hits where I don't know the source, maybe a distant LEO or a Crapra, but it didn't J them out. This morning I had my first J. Didn't spot the source, but there was no LEO around either. It Jed out quickly, basically just a "brap-brap dee-dah-do".

If I find it falses Ka more than the .813 I'll turn POP off and see if that makes a difference.

But so far I'm happy with .858. While it's not worth upgrading if your .813 works well, I don't see any need to keep waiting on the sidelines if you're thinking of getting a V1 or upgrading. .858 does have improvements in the arrows and lack of ghosting.
