    Default My problem child V1

    My V1 has been sent in for repairs after it was failing to ramp up and seemed as if it had fallen out of tune. I've had it back for about 3 weeks now, but I am only now starting to get some real alerts to test it with. This is what happened today:


    Problem 1
    Driving on the interstate I picked up a weak K alert. It lasted a good 20 seconds, which is very good imo. However, my V1 never gave me the lock tone as the LEO passed me. He was about 200 feet from me going the opposite direction. I know before I had the problems with my V1 it would have given the lock tone. Also, as he passed me I immeditly lost the signal even though there were other cars that the signal should have bounced off of. Strangely about 15 secs after I passed the LEO I got one blip of K from behind.

    Problem 2
    Driving in town I started to get a weak Ka alert and noticed a truck in front of me with a RD mounted on the window. It looked like a cobra, but I am not sure. Anyway, my V1 never J'd the alert and it never got a lock tone even when I passed the truck and was directly in front of him.


    I don't believe my V1 is working correctly, but I thought I would post this to get some 2nd opinions.

    I'm not sure if I'm understanding, but you should only get a lock tone when you have an existing bogey and ANOTHER bogey chimes in.

    The lock tone means that your signal is full strength and you are within line of sight to the target or target vehicle. That could be due to his gun being cranked down or a number of different things god only knows there are so many possibilities and not j-ing out the cobra my v1 has sometimes neglected to j out a cobra or two but it is very rare of an occurence it depends on the detecor every detector is different you could have two x-50's side by side and turn one on it be more sensitive and better than the one to its side and vise versa electronic componantry is weird that way it is hard to keep it consistent this very well could just be a dud you never know ....? Or it could just be the enviromental circumstances the problem with all these little issues v1 is having is none of us are there to be able to tell you yup thats not right so its hard to tell its like a mechanic trying to fix a dirtbike over the phone...no he has to be there which creates a problem so.... I hope you get this figured out I had issues with my 3.851 and sent it in for a refund and got at the time what was new the 3.854 and i haven't had a problem since so there is new junk made every day just cause its new don't mean its perfect...

    Thanks for the replies. I know it is hard to diagnose the problems based on descriptions alone. I am just trying to get some feedback before making a decision about what needs to be done. Clearly I have lost some confidence in my V1 and that bothers me.

    When I first got the V1 I was simply amazed with it's performance. Maybe because it worked so well initially that is the standard by which all of my RD's are judged. And maybe after the V1 was "fixed" it just wasn't at the same level as when it was new.

    I wonder if Mike would just replace the unit and let me start fresh?

    I didn't even ask all i did is remit for a full refund on my unit then just bought new till i got a good unit that is my reccomendation if you do otherwise mike will be a jerk about it and maybe even not trade you up fair and square as he says.
