So I'm new. I got a speeding ticket the other day, it infuriated me. I was going 80 in a 70, on the Interstate, perfect road conditions, daytime, perfect visibility, light traffic. Utterly ridiculous. Was driving a 2006 V6 Accord, it's safe, smooth, does 80 effortlessly and feels like it's riding on rails. I'm 39 years old and drive like someone's grandma, don't take risks, very cautious, always wear my seatbelt. I wasn't behaving recklessly. That law enforcement felt it necessary to step into my daily life just boggles the mind.
So in the post-ticket fury of the moment, I googled radar detectors, gathered that Valentine was the device that discriminating speeders employed, and ordered it, along with the remote display.
It hasn't arrived yet, but I'm plotting the installation.
The car in question (06 V6 Accord) is actually my wife's daily driver, but it's what we use whenever we take a highway road trip, which is actually fairly often. So the wife is concerned about the RD, doesn't want it out when she's driving on a day-to-day basis.
I'd prefer a stealthy hardwired installation, with the RD up high which seems to be the conventional wisdom, and the remote display installed somewhere discreet, yet visible.
So my first question:
Can a hardwired installation be both hardwired and easily removable?
Bottom line is the detector likely wouldn't be employed except when we're on a road trip, and I'd like to keep the main unit and the remote display somewhere safe in the house the rest of the time.
If we could do that, then I might even consider hardwiring *my* daily driver, the beater (a '95 Accord), just for kicks, and we could move the unit back and forth as needed. Although I seldom drive that car on the highways anymore, it strikes me as an interesting toy to have in the car, and having it there might make more more comfortable with using it.
(Anyone out there do a stealthy install in a 2003-2007 Accord? I'm looking for pointers.)
