I Just purchased a V1 with 3.851 sw Just wondering how it stacks up against 3.812 and 3.864 for sensitivity and if there are holes in its defense. I have noticed multiple bogey in certain K environments count has reached 7 when there were only 2 known sources. Are there reasons for an sw upgrade and if so why? Any one running sw 3.851 and are you happy with its performance and any quirks that you might know of? Thanks for any input.

I just got mine back from service, I was hoping I'd get the latest. I wish they'd mention what they do on the invoice besides "Service". I still have 3.864.

Does anyone know if my version is going to have heat issues? I live in Phoenix, and I mentioned it on my letter to the service department. If necessary I may have to sell mine on CL and buy a new one to get 3.872 if it's the one with the heat problems fixed.

Edit: Not to say they did nothing in service, it is definitely back on its game after acting poorly. Just worried about heat.

I just ordered a new one direct from the Valentine website today. I can't wait to get it installed and see how it stacks up against my 5 year old V1.

I finally got to play with it a little today, Seems to false less, and have near identical range. But that's just driving with it for day, Will update in a couple of days.

I have had mine about 6 month's. I am really impressed with it. I have been hearing that the V1 is so noisy but i totally disagree. The around the curve, and the over the hill are really impressive. I LOVE the arrows.

My 3.872. as compared to the late 2002 bought V1 has shown no false LASER alarms from the sunlight, neon signs, famous led taillights YET, while it picks up well know radar false alerts further away and seems a bit more noise in the big city, as I leave POP on.

On the interstate near me, I have not yet got a chance to test long rage detection. But I do pickup some residual KA band from the leo's cars when they have people pulled over and their I.O. unit is just turned on awaiting the next pull of the trigger of I.O KA ( a little like POP but not in such a fast time) I pick up this residual leak at about 1000 feet, so I imagine when they shoot of the instant ons and off, their radar guns must remained powered up just enough for a goof V1 to pick up the leakage- sorta like the radar detector use. I recently got som J-outs shich I could easily see came from the dash of a large truck mounted with a cheap Cobra detector- Weird, I can recall back in the late 1980s when a curved shaped Cobra stoled the limelight and was listed as having the highest sensitivity of any other detector compared to it. It also had many strength level l.e.d.s going from green to yell, to blue/pruple I think, the highest signal alerts went to red- AND had other colors and sounds for the various bands, It looked very sharp, had very high gain on all bands, yet they blew it after 2 years when they moved into cheaper detectors and let Bell, Escort/Passport, and V1 blow them out of the water, Cobra had a god start because of the false belief they still make the best cb radios (Uniden made their classic 29 circuit boards, and a new Uniden 78 is vastly superior in quality than a new Cobra 29 classic remake.

I respect Mike V. a great deal, He did a lot for his days with Escort and Passport (but those battery powered units are not worth a crap), and now with the V1, he has proven himself time after time. However He needs to get back to work. I understand he is a wealthy man, and by all right deserves to be. But if he would just read these forums he would realize the problems with his detectors, but it seems he is spoiled, rich and don't care to put his great engineering mind back to work. We could use multiple coloer LEDS so we can identify radar at night, but we get a model T Ford for our ideas- one color for all. I'm tired of hearing a beep and looking down to verify the band and can;t because they are all in RED. That is an EASY improvement Mike cold make and maybe no additional cost.

I also want to see Milke and his team actually try to compete again. That owner;s manual is looking pretty dated since 1993, and police radar and laser has grown light years ahead since then. His upgrades have helped keep an edge, but I still hold out hope that Mike V. knows how to pick up small POP Bursts of 16 nano seconds, at least he could if he put his mind to it and chooses not to rock a boat that is hauling in plenty of fish already. These are areas both easy and difficult that could keep the V1 selling like hot cakes if he would go back to applying himself to his engineering and not make the mistake that G.M. did and just assume all of your customers will return and never leave ya.
