On the interstate near me, I have not yet got a chance to test long rage detection. But I do pickup some residual KA band from the leo's cars when they have people pulled over and their I.O. unit is just turned on awaiting the next pull of the trigger of I.O KA ( a little like POP but not in such a fast time) I pick up this residual leak at about 1000 feet, so I imagine when they shoot of the instant ons and off, their radar guns must remained powered up just enough for a goof V1 to pick up the leakage- sorta like the radar detector use. I recently got som J-outs shich I could easily see came from the dash of a large truck mounted with a cheap Cobra detector- Weird, I can recall back in the late 1980s when a curved shaped Cobra stoled the limelight and was listed as having the highest sensitivity of any other detector compared to it. It also had many strength level l.e.d.s going from green to yell, to blue/pruple I think, the highest signal alerts went to red- AND had other colors and sounds for the various bands, It looked very sharp, had very high gain on all bands, yet they blew it after 2 years when they moved into cheaper detectors and let Bell, Escort/Passport, and V1 blow them out of the water, Cobra had a god start because of the false belief they still make the best cb radios (Uniden made their classic 29 circuit boards, and a new Uniden 78 is vastly superior in quality than a new Cobra 29 classic remake.

I respect Mike V. a great deal, He did a lot for his days with Escort and Passport (but those battery powered units are not worth a crap), and now with the V1, he has proven himself time after time. However He needs to get back to work. I understand he is a wealthy man, and by all right deserves to be. But if he would just read these forums he would realize the problems with his detectors, but it seems he is spoiled, rich and don't care to put his great engineering mind back to work. We could use multiple coloer LEDS so we can identify radar at night, but we get a model T Ford for our ideas- one color for all. I'm tired of hearing a beep and looking down to verify the band and can;t because they are all in RED. That is an EASY improvement Mike cold make and maybe no additional cost.

I also want to see Milke and his team actually try to compete again. That owner;s manual is looking pretty dated since 1993, and police radar and laser has grown light years ahead since then. His upgrades have helped keep an edge, but I still hold out hope that Mike V. knows how to pick up small POP Bursts of 16 nano seconds, at least he could if he put his mind to it and chooses not to rock a boat that is hauling in plenty of fish already. These are areas both easy and difficult that could keep the V1 selling like hot cakes if he would go back to applying himself to his engineering and not make the mistake that G.M. did and just assume all of your customers will return and never leave ya.
It's very easy to distinguish between bands with the different sounds the alert makes.

V1 may have some new stuff on the drawing board, but they will tell you about it until it's released.

Cool Re: V1 Software Versions vs. Performance

OK, I must report that my laser alert, indeed, DID FALSE ALERT due to some tail lights on a G.M. SUV last night, I was about 20 feet away when it happen!! (I happen to like GM cars too, so I am not bashing Chevy or anything)- However I still say this newest software bond # is better at not "falsing" on laser, in general. It "falsed" in an off-axis angle last night.

I look forward to what VR comes up with next. I may have to wait until it's time for SANTA to come around though, as my funds are mighty dry right now, and finding a decent job in these parts is not easy.

At least I have good transportation... hmmm.... I have heard that some Pizza Delivery Drivers are making more money than I currently am in a plant doing skilled electronics labor! (Man, aren't we ALL like way underpaid? haha) I wonder if it would be worth using a NEW car to deliver PIZZA? - I mean, hey I get 37MPG, and have a GPS.... But I'm not sure it's legal or not to have a radar detector in a car when you are driving for commercial reasons (I know big trucks are not supposed to have radar detectors, although they estimate about 30% of them use the stealth units, and I see taxi cabs using them too)..... But I see others doing it all the time here. I'm also not sure it's wise for me to run up so many miles on a brand new car, but on the other hand, if I'm also paid for how many miles I drive then maybe I'm better off going this way. I think I will at least look into it. My current job just doesn't want to pay enough, heck I made more money years ago doing less work. Man this economy has seen better days, but I in no way wish to argue politics gang.

While the above post is off topic because it doesn't list the version, purchase date or serial number information, I feel compelled to comment.

Chevrolet Trailblazers and their GMC clones use neon high mounted brake lights. Neon is in the same light frequency range that Lidar units use, so while it's not a Lidar alert, it IS an accurate report of light in that frequency range.

It's unrealistic to believe that there's an effective way to filter these alerts any more than it's realistic to believe there's a way to prevent alerts from that stupid adaptive cruise control system used by Infinity. Both are in the same limited frequency range that the unit must detect to detect Lidar.

It is what it is. Any 'filtering' would be more likely to eliminate the superior ability that V1 has to detect real Lidar. Chill baby!
