I don't really know if it is any better for the V1 to use the knob each time, but I constantly turn off the V1 before turning the car off and turn the car on before turning the V1 back on. Am I alone?
Is it any better for the unit itself?

If I remember I try to. If the unit is on, it just reboots the unit when I turn the car back on. Not sure if this is good or not.
i find it easier to unplug it, then plug it back in, then to twist the knob..
My v1 is on all the time . . I don't plug it back in till my car is started. .
Sometimes I forget on a quick run into the store I forget.
Mine is hardwired to a non-switched wire, if I leave the unit on and shut my car off the V1 would stay on. After about a week or so it became habit to just turn it off and I dont even think about it anymore.
It could be bad for the V1 to "reboot" itself upon start up, a voltage surge would pop the fuze or fry the unit.
I have mine hardwired to a permanent live feed, I switch the unit on after I start the car and switch off when I'm done.
I do the same but not hardwired...
