Default Bye Bye Vector LR, hello V1!

Just saying hello... I just found this site searching for remote display install pictures... I just got a latest firmware V1 a week or two ago, and just received the remote display; hard wired it all up to my '05 Altima SE-R (flashy red, no less), I'm just having a hard time figuring out where to put the remote display... 8)

It's replacing my trusty, but ailing Beltronics Vector LR (the 970, hand picked for having longer range than normal units). It would go crazy if it got too hot, it would sometimes flash "LO CAL", and other things like that.

I already programmed my V1 to my tasting (I'm in the Boston Area, so X is off, K is muted for a few seconds and until strength 4...).

Here's an idea: why not sell an addon that will track your speed, and automute if < some user settable speed? (default, say, 30). Like stealth one does... that would be awesome! [p.s. they could do it either via gps, or via an accelerometer]

    Great site!!

Ma troopers still use X-band be careful!!!! I'd leave X-band on and keep the V1 in Advanced Logic, big "L"

Where have you seen that? I swear I've never, since 99 that I've been driving, seen cops and not picked them up. Well, ok, sometimes when they already have stopped someone and I figure they turned off their radar.

I do use it in "L" mode, but after browsing a bit here, was considering "l"... I have the remote display, so muting will get easier now.

Thing is, there's SO MANY false X alerts around Boston metro! In my humble experience, I've also noticed MA troopies and cops are lazy -- they dont bother with pop, laser or any fancy tricks. The most they do is 'hide' but when I pick them up, they seem to be just sitting with constant radar on; probably because there are so many speeders anyways, they'll get someone anyways.

keep in mind that X-band is poping up more and more because police know that detector users are turing off X

if you are confident that X band isnt used in your area, turn that bad boy off.

If it is used, run it in L mode. another way of looking at it is this: are you really going to be speeding in metro boston? it's not like you are going to be driving and get caught doing 85 in a 30 zone.

Congrats on the new V1, isthar. I too am a Bel convert, having replaced a Vector STi with a V1 back in 2000 or so. My Bel developed the nasty habit of falsing like crazy, in particular it would FALSE a full-scale instant-on on K and Ka, usually when doing 75 in the left lane on the highway. I'd rather get a speeding ticket than a heart attack, so I had my friend run over the Bel with his Camaro and I got a V1.

I'm on my second V1 now, having upgraded to a rev. 1.8 a year ago. I have mine stealth mounted by hard-wiring it, sticking it inside a visor pouch with holes cut-out for laser detection plus the remote display. I love it, it's like it's built-in to the car. 8)
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

I converted from a Bel as well. The V1 was definitely an improvement from the older technology! So far I have no regrets.

I seiously doubt that LE angencies are reverting back to X-band because they know drivers are turning off X-band on their detectors. I'm sure it's a safe bet that a very small percentage of detector owners are actually doing so.

My bet is that LE agencies are using x-band because they can probably purchase reconditioned or refurbished x-band radar that won't take a toll on their budget much much cheaper than K or Ka. What it comes down to folks in gov't especially today is money.

I turned X off and believe it or not am using A in the city! It's quieter than my RX 65 was on city mode. I am a v1 user for life. 8)

    Great site!!
What you describe is very similar to Cobra's Intellimute feature. It could sense the RPM speed through electrical noise, and mute alerts when you are below a certain RPM.
