Thread: Revision Code

    Default Revision Code

I'm looking to buy a Valentine 1, possibly a used one. How do I tell what revision number the unit is and is there a minimum revision I should be looking for? I know all the V1s perform very well but from reading here and other reviews it looks like most of the latest revisions have been to the "junk" filter to keep the false alerts to a minimum. Any advise would be appreciated.

The latest revision is V1.8 POP2 with 3.858 firmware.

Go here to learn how to do it.

If you want to see how much an upgrade will cost you, go here and type in your serial number.

I wouldn't buy a used unit off of ebay. Just call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399.

Thanks for the reply and info, I've learned a lot from lurking at this forum. Before I thought a V1 was a V1, I didn't realize there were versions and revisions. I'm not looking to buy off of ebay, I'm looking for a unit locally. This way I will be able to test it and see what version I have before I complete the purchase. A new unit, while not out of the question is a little more than I'm looking to spend right now.
One more questions, what is the average cost for upgrades from Valentine?

If you have a non-POP hardware 1.8 (smaller case), the POP2 upgrade would be $75. If you have a 1.7 (larger case with laser photodiode under rear antenna) it was $225 to upgrade to 1.8 w/POP2 IIRC. Bascially they give you a new V1 for that price.

If you are having a software glitch, like the "E" message when it isn't supposed to happen, the software upgrade may be free.
