Hardwire it if you can. Its pretty easy.

Also, mount it straight, level and high - above the rear-view mirror if you can.

    Hello Raven,

What is ment by 'hardwire'? My unit should arrive NLT Wednesday so I don't have a complete understanding on the ins and outs. Do you mean for the power to be tapped off an existing 12VDC lead vs using the lighter for the 12VDC source? I have the little accessory module on order. I guess I run the main unit dark and the accessory module with indicators 'on'.

VR sells a hardwire kit. Yes, it is tapping a 12V source.

It's not a yota, but here is how I have mine mounted in my GMC Sierra. Not real close up, but you get the idea. I like where I have it mounted...

I have a 2003 Tundra and I had mine hardwired from the overhead compartment right in front of the rear view mirror and coming out the headliner by the front windshield. Just enough wire out of the headliner to reach the V-1. It works great and is a clean install with not a lot of wire hanging. The light covers come off and then you open the garage door compartment and remove the couple of screws holding it in. The whole section is then removed and you splice in one wire and ground the other on metal. Then run the end going to the detector up and out the back of the compartment and through the top of the headliner and down to the detector. When you put it back together the garage door compartment will hold the extra wire you did not need and you should be good to go. If you are not sure which wires to tap into have someone help you. Mine is tapped into a wire so it is always on even when the truck is turned off. I like it that way, but some prefer it to be turned on when the vehicle is started. I did not want to screw mine up so I had my neighbor help and it took about 20 minutes.

yea, they are the only way to go.....had them in my last 3 jeeps and now the truck. What to do when you have water in them......"dump 'em out!" - thats the best part!
