    Default Tunnel Vision

    Hi All,

I find that my V1 doesn't seem to have tunnel vision. If I get an alert (on KA band) and I am around a corner or on a side street the V1 will alert to the KA. I do keep K band on although it isn't a threat in my town. I noticed it just eats K band alive. I get alerts well in advance and before I approach a curve.

So I was curious as to those with a V1 if yours seems to have this tunnel vision where it won't alert to a radar source until you are on a collision course (same direction that is)

    Thanks

    I voted sometimes...

When its in tune, it seems to have sketchy off-axis detection, sometimes amazing, sometimes just barely giving me time to slow down (but hey as long as it does give me that just enough time).

When its out of tune... well it (obviously) doesnt have any useable detection.

Then again, as long as the source isn't off axis and its in tune (it can even have hills and large trucks etc etc in the way) it has amazing range.

Only Passports have tunnel vision that I've seen. The V1 and STI do not.

My V1 has tunnel vision on Ka band from the front. From the rear - the Ka detection is stellar. When I first got my V1 I noticed this, and it was confirmed again the other day.

I might be sending my V1 in because of it.

Even when looking straight ahead down the tunnel it has issues on Ka. Here's a quote from a previous post of mine.

The RX65 is marginally better at 35.5gHz than the V1 3.826 I have, and that is why the V1 is sitting in a box in the basement. It was retired there 3 weeks ago after not being able to alert to a Constant On forward facing Talon mounted in an SUV that I was tailing down a country road for several miles. Only occasionaly when I would close to under 600ft would the V1 alert weakly, yet I could easily see the tail lights of the SUV.
I now have the V1 on the dash again, going to try various settings to see if the 35.5 can be improved. If not I'll wait to see if any of the '07 V1 Rev.s hold any promise.

I do not notice that with my V1. It is much better at off axis Ka band detection than my 985, which is very good at Ka band detection. In a straight line, the 985 is much closer to the V1 in Ka band detection.

That is interesting about better reception from the rear antenna than the front. I have read similar comments from others too. I wonder what's up with that. It would be interesting to see what VR has to say about that should you send yours in.

The front antenna is tuned to win RD tests and screw the off axis hits. The rear antenna is solely the preserve of the V1 and has no challengers so it's tuned for utility Hope this helps.

I've read a few posts about the V1 having tunnel vision with Ka @35.5Ghz, but I can honestly say I don't have that issue with my V1.

My town uses a lot of 35.5Ghz and I've received alerts from around curves, from the front, and from the rear on multipliable occasion.

I also find my STi has excellent off axis detection of Ka. But, I would say my V1 and STi are very evenly matched when it comes to off axis Ka detection.
