Default V1 upgrade leads to tune?

I'm considering sending in my unit for an upgrade. Not really because of the upgrade itself, but I've had it for several years and it's probably due a tune up and calibration. If sent in for an upgrade (which I wouldn't mind) would they automatically tune it up and check out the calibration?

    TIA

    Default depends

Kind of depends on how old your unit is.

I do believe they would yes... (especially if you just ask).

If I may ask... what rev. do you have?

You may be better off keeping the one you have, and just have it get checked to see if its intune, rather then dealing with the 'E' error.

As has been said before: Newer isn't always better.

.826 seems to still be the most liked.

I sent my V1 in last week for the same thing you're thinking about....retune/upgrade. I just wrote a short note explaining what I would like done and who to call if they needed to replace something that wouldn't be already covered under the $75 and rubber banded it to the V1 when I put it in the box.

I just got it back this evening after work and it seems to be working much better and alerting more often....which is good. They even cleaned up the case and lenses for me. No other charges beyond the $75 were necessary...also good.

The only thing I think they could have done better with the whole upgrade system is to notify you (email, short phone call etc.) when they receive your RD or when they plan to ship it back...just so you don't wonder about it for a week and a half.

I think it went from 2.639 or something like that (don't remember exactly) to the newest 3.861. It hadn't been updated in 2+ years.

They probably check the tuning as part of the upgrade process, but depending on what you're upgrading from/to, the tunable guts may be replaced/upgraded anyway. For example, going from a non-POP 1.8 to a POP 1.8 would likely result in a new LO board/chip that's already tuned.

I'm not sure exactly what revision I have. I konw it's early 1.8 is all. When I punch in the serial nubmer at V1's website they just say 1.8.

Thats exactly what I did with mine as I bought it used and it never picked up any radar at all. I sent it in to get tuned/repaired and figured I'd upgrade at same time instead of paying 45 bucks for just a repair with no warranty.
