Default PHOTOS ADDED: custom install of a remote display

Im looking for some directions on how to CUT UP
the Remote Display & possibly the Remote Audio.

Im trying to 'better' mount the remote display in my
dash and even after pulling the remote display out of
its black box its STILL too big (no much room in my dash).

Now im wondering if i can "dremil" the remote display, removing
the mute button and RELOCATING the mute button (someplace
    other than on the display).

Anyone have photos or suggestions on how to cut the remote
    display apart ?

Im also interested in cutting the Remote Audio Adapter apart
so that i can have a volume control/mute closer (and hidden)

would it be possible to dremil / cut the RAA volume/mute switch (or
build my own) so that i can have a remote volume/mount some place
CLOSER to my hands ? (i dont like reaching up to the unit...mounted
    high on the windshield).

w/ the right audio system that would be easy...a good start would be to
buy the RAA (remote audio adapter) it has a speaker out & headphone
out w/ adjustable volume...and it even includes a "speaker"
    in the module...

119 views and no response...I figured it out myself...
the mute button is on the drivers door, near the power
    window switches

not sure about the display but i bought a remote audio/mute button on ebay for $12.95. It is tiny and works great. I was able to put it right by my steering wheel.

i think youll find this is a bit more "involved" than buying a
    switch...

the remote display (w/ mute) used to be located in the cubby
before (i was tired of it there). in the NEW position its hidden by
the steering wheel, but out of sight by "cheap bastards" unwilling
to buy there own (thinking they can follow/use mine).

heres a "before" photos of the remote display...

Talk about tooting your own horn. IMO its too low. Your eyes would have to go off the road too long to find it. but hey if it works for you then ata guy!

    Nice install, bushpilot. 8)

    Sorry I'm late to the party....been out-of-town.

But for future reference, this thread will help:

Buried within this thread are several links (which in themselves are also cross-linked to other Forums, d-boards, and how-to's) which address your specific concerns of both altering the V1 remote display as well as alternative methods for mute-button wiring.

and how is YOURS mounted...apparently you dont look down
    at your speedo ?

in the dash any HIGHER and its too easily SEEN
by anyone (say in a uniform or someone w/ a crack
pipe in their f'in pocket) who walks up to the drivers window.

in this location the display is blocked by the steering
    wheel.

imo it takes LESS time to look ANY v1 display (and check
your speed) than it does to read your speedo/tach/oil pressure/
trans temp/water temp etc going down the road.

based on the TYPE of 'beep' (and how fast its beeping) i stomp
my brakes and THEN check my speed...anything less could
have you signin a note that youll appear in court...

Allen thanks...I actually found those & they helped
alot...I was TRYING not fit the remote display w/OUT
modifing it...but i just couldnt find a viable loccation w/
    enough room....

once i looked at the pcb i was able to determine that
i could chop the mute switch off & wire my own.
