    Default Upgrading a V1

I've had my V1 for over 10 years. It's so old, I can't remember the year I bought it. I checked the software version using the technique described in one of the stickies. The 4 numbers were 0137.

It's served me well; just 1 ticket during it's life. However, recently I've had the urge to get a new detector. I did a bunch of research (on this site and others) and it looks like the V1 is still at the top of the class.

I was about to order a new one. I went to their website and noticed the upgrade option. My unit is so old, I qualify for an "instant upgrade". Basically, for $279, they send me a brand new unit. Sounds pretty sweet.

It would be nice to be able to keep my old unit. (I would give it to my wife). But, I can't complain. I assume everyone is familiar with this service, but in case not, I thought I would mention it.

    P.S.

Nice site, and nice set of forums.

Yes, we all know about it, best bargain is so sell it on fleabay as all models get bank.
VR sells returned new units for 10% off.
If your unit was bought 97-98 it would be worth keeping, or give it to your wife.
Your four version numbers don't make sence.

Can one determine the model from the serial number? It's 1447110337

I followed the instructions for determining the software version. Those were the numbers that flashed, in that sequence.

I'll check out selling prices on fleabay - thanks.

No, you have to enter the programming mode.

You have a pre 97' upgrade, weak Ka and no mode memory, your wife needs a new one as well,

That's what I did. I entered the programming mode, then followed the steps to "determine your software version". the numbers that flashed in sequence were: 0 1 3 7. I noticed this time that the 1 had a period after it. So, it was: 0 1. 3 7. Maybe that means 1.370?

Just noticed your comment about pre-97. I agree. I really think this was close to when they first came out.

    Probably not worth fleabaying, huh?

The earliest version on the chart is 2.680 so I believe that your unit is so old that it cannot even be reprogrammed, I heard that early ones could not.
What happens when you tap the mute button after your firmware?
Oh yea, you don't even have laser. Earliest unit $299

I have a 1.7 with firmware 2.690 and it can be programmed. Still works, great, no E's, no "J"'s, and no more Ka non police radar alerts than my BEL.

Makes sense. Didn't some of the last 1.7s have the separate LEDs for each radar/laser band?
