Default Do scratches on a RD decrease range and what about applyi...

Does scratches on a RD decrease range and what about applying a pda screen protector to stop any future scratching?

Would only apply the pda screen protector on my v1 if knowing it would not affect range on the v1, as my buddies v1 is somewhat scratched up, and do not want my new v1 to end up like that. Sorry if this has been discussed, I tried google and going through the v1 forum for answers.

treat it w/ care - you won't get any scratches.

when it gets bad - send it in and get it replaced.

To more directly answer your question. For radar - no - it won't affect anything.

For Lidar - it COULD. . but unless its a good size gouge/scratch - I wouldn't' fret about it.

Heck, mine's (Escort) on a motorcycle and it's got bugs plastered all over it. I don't think a few scratches are gonna hurt it.

I just send it in to Escort and they make it like new with a new window should it throw up a "Requires Service" message. Other than that, it gets washed by the rain. Sometimes I do clean it with Plexus plastic cleaner, just to get the butterfly wings and bee smashes off it. I've even doused it with Fabreeze once because it smelled kind'a funky.

Still, it works which is the main concern.

"Order a replacement plastic window now before the part becomes unavailable once the radar detector model is obsolete. "

I did not know we could do that with the v1. I just recently received mine. So if I call v1 tomorrow and ask for 2 plastic window covers they wont act like I am some crazy person? ( one for friend and I) As I was under the impression you would have to send the v1 in... And what about the pda screen protector, would that affect dection...

Thanks Michael, I have been using those pda protectors on my GPS since 2005, and not one scratch on it. Also I normally change out the protector once every 6 mo and never notice any residue on it. But since placing it on the GPS it does reflect alot ie the GPS screen... So I know you gave a great explanation, but curious to hear your thoughts on this reflection and RD dection, if any. Thanks
