Default I'm Impressed...The Ultimate LEO Speed Trap.....

As most of you know I'm still trying to decide on whether the V1 is worth a $400 'upgrade' seeing as I already own an RX65.

So anyhow, as promised I took the Mustang GT Convert. on a LONG trip from Long Island NY upstate to the Hunter Mountain area and back again. Going up I took the Taconic backroad route and coming back I took 87 the Thruway.

The V1 performed flawlessly and one speed trap in particular was a beauty.

Picture a winding country road with mountains on either side. This was coming out of Hunter Mountain (rt 212 I think) and I was the only car on the road.

    The V1 starts alerting K-band.....Hmmmm...
There's nothing out here, that's odd.

Well it keeps getting stronger and stronger so I slow down to the 45mph limit.

Sure enough, around a curve on the right side, literally buried in a cave / overhanging rock formation and a good 50 ft off the road the LEO was backed in there shooting at a 45 degree angle in the same direction I was going.

I did not see him until I passed the formation!!

The V1 nailed this guy from about 3/4 of a mile BEHIND him. Evidently the radar was bouncing off the rocky sides of the mountains.

I was impressed to say the least.

Through the rest of the back roads (RT28, 23, 42 etc) the V1 picked up all the speed traps and there were PLENTY of them because the speed limit changes all the time and one missed sign and you are nailed.

On the Thruway I was picking up ka and k along with one laser alert, but I didn't see LEO anywhere around when I got the laser alert.

On the way home I took a route that is infested with X-band and which causes my RX65 to false on X as well as laser. This is near an airport as well as a corrider of strip malls.

I turned off X band to see if I could duplicate the problem some people are complaining of with X reporting even though it is turned off.

The V1 falsed on K band a bit, but I never heard/saw an X band alert.
    This was in "A" mode.

So anyway, sorry for the long winded report but I'm starting to like the way this thing works and thought I would share my experience with the V1 from a Valentine family noob, but long time detector user.

For the record, I drove about 450 miles .

On the forum there are pictures of the inside of the Valentine one you also see the same for the Escort 8500 X50. There is no contest between the two, Valentine One is well constructed.

Well you can't say "upgrade" because upgrade sounds like a one-time expense that you'll never get back. You have to think of the V1 as a $400 "investment" that may depreciate 10% if you keep it a few years.
