    Default A question about V1 and X-band

My question is about X-band frequency...As I currently spend most of my time in Bulgaria (Southeastern Europe) where only X-band is used I have the following questions:

1.In my user manual it says that it works on 10.525GHz while on the webpage now it shows 10.500-10.550GHz….same thing for the K,KU bands….SO the question is do I need to upgrade my V1 v1.8 to the new one in order to get the wider freq. band???
My V1 is V1.8 no pop

2.The local police is using new a new Radar which works mostly on Instant-On. The X-band used here is same as in the USA the other one is not allowed by law. Before these new radars were introduced even on Instant-On I had miles of warring, now the range is not that great, but it is enough. Is there a chance that they are using some kind of POP-X-band Radar…???

    Thank you in advance.

Default POP only operates in the K and Ka Bands.

My belief is that you are probably experiencing low-power instant-on x-band radar.

Some years ago, I believe, the state of NJ began using low-power instant-on x-band which cut down on their range but also on detectability by approaching drivers. The stuff is pretty lethal.

Shouldn't be confused with POP, although, the end result, is very similar.

    Thanks Veil,

Will it help if I turn off the K and KA band detection so the V1 scans only the X-band....???

Or turning off the K and KA doesnt make the V1 scan only the X, but just doestn report the KA and K.

p.s: searching the net for their new radars I found a local newspaper saying that the radar has two working modes...1.Detecting speed to about 150meters (400feet I guess?!?!) and 2. Detecting speed to about 300meters a little less then 1/4mile. So I think you are right that they are using low-power X-band radars

If you are 100% sure that only Xband is used ho ahead and turn off K and Ka

    Default Not Sure...

    KGB,

I really don't know the answer to your question directly.

I know mike has advertised in the past about other detectors (historically) may have backslid with the initial Ka-band (wideband K) circuitries incorporated into some other detectors - the flidside being that the V1 did not sacrifice "legacy" x-band and k-band performance.

Therefore my answer would tend to be something like this: If you are being bothered by excessive K/Ka falses that you know not to be from real traffic radar then perhaps you could disable/reduce their alerting. I wouldn't expect that you would actually increase the range of X-band detection, however, by disabling them.

Also, I would recommend, that you stay up with current events in your region. What's the possiblity of traffic enforcement actually incorporating newer radar guns, such as Ka, in the future?

Two months ago the government here bough 250 new radar units working on X-Band..the radar gun is called TR4 and it is made by some Bulgarian company with Motorola chips (as far as I remember).

The possibility of them buying a KA-band radar guns is very small...Bulgaria has about 7 million people and more then half of them are living in the 5 biggest cities. As well the country is about 600km long and about 450km high...there is a mountain seperating the country in half...called the Balkans where the name of the whole region comes from. And there is one main road north of that mountain and two south of it....so if you look at the picture 250new radars plus the old one's about the same number is more then enough.

So I dont think that they will get any K or KA radars any time soon...but elections are in just a few months time and the main job of the government is to spend money on bull**** and get money for them...you know how it works

The TR4 X-Band radar gun has a display with a date and time stamp on it...so when they pull you over they show you the reading and the time and date...also the radar has a memory and when they go to the police station they must show the same number of speeding tickets...Well that it what is shoud be...BUT in reallity it is not like that....

The main problem is that in Sofia (capital) where I am right now, couple of weeks ago the cops received an order to work only and only on instan-on...and only when they see a fast enough car...they trigger it.

There is a Alfa Romeo Club in Bulgaria and I happen to be the president of it, so if the situation changes I will know (I hope)....someone in the club even said that he has a friend cop and we can do some testing with the radar and RDs.

About false alerts, well all automatic doors here work on K-Band....KA-band I get only from other cheap detectors usually Russian made...they cost about 20$ and work only on X-band.

The problem with falsing is only K-band, but you can program the V1 after what signal strengh and for how long to alert you with sound on K-band...you can play with K-band a lot on the V1..anyways...some time I use it on highway to know when I am coming close to a petrol station...and to be alert for stupid people crossing over and for stupid drivers not looking for cars on the highway when they go out of the petrol station....driving here is very agressive....

    I when a little off-topic...

    Thanks again
