    Default Newest V1 Moment!

    Another satisfied customer.

    March 2007: Life under lidar.

With the recent increase in lidar traps in Calgary, I decided that it was time for me to upgrade from my friend of four years, a Beltronics 985. My initial choices of lidar/radar detectors were the Escort Passport 8500 X50 and the Beltronics STi. Not Valentine One; I though it too expensive. I settled on the 8500 X50.

After using it for maybe one hour I managed to get hit by lidar and ended up with a hefty ticket. Although I wouldn’t dispute my guilt, I was nonetheless miffed that my new detector could not give me an early lidar warning. I went back to the store and returned it for a refund.

After more research on lidar detection range I decided it was time to give Valentine One a shot. Within three minutes of installing V1 in my Honda Civic, it wailed a lidar warning. I wasn't speeding but naturally I slowed down anyway. Sure enough, there was a LEO sitting at the bottom of a construction zone nabbing unknowing drivers. I was very impressed....

…but the story continues. After about a week of learning V1's personality on my usual 35 km commute through the busy streets of Calgary, I had ran into six different lidar traps. Each time I would be driving behind a group of cars while V1 briefly warned. Each time I had doubts until I saw the trap carefully tucked behind a lamppost or bush. V1 consistently gave enough warning for me to make sure I was at the posted limit. It was quite humorous to see all the drivers in front of me getting picked off. I’ve heard of other V1 owners bragging, but I never realized it was truly this good.

Thank you Mike Valentine for building a detector that always delivers what it promises!

that entire story depends completely on circumstance, all the times the V1 gave him enough time to slow down he was in traffic (a good environment to pick up scatter). Notice how he didnt mention there being any traffic when he got nailed with the x50. I and many other users on this forum have noted the x50's ability to pick up scatter in traffic. I would be willing to bet if he had the V1 on his windshield instead of the x50 that first laser encounter he would be posting an x50 moment talking about how it saved his arse.

While the story speaks volumes of the V1's sensitivity (Im not debating that) even a mindless troll such as JAZZY should know that trusting a detector to protect you against lidar is about as foolish as thinking that "pulling out" is a reasonable form of birthcontrol, yeah you get a lucky a few times, but it doesnt mean you will everytime.

The v1 defintely rocks on laser according to the tests that veil did.

Either way, it doesnt underscore that fact that if you get hit head on with lidar that your pretty much ****ed. Only a jammer can save you at this point. You once chance is to catch scatter. The Rd will alert you to a ticket otherwise

Wow, those V1 moments sure do smell a lot like BS to me. Does the V1 staff take those posts and edit them and then make them a final product? Never ceases to amaze me those stories.

Sad thing is I've run into many of those actual stories while driving but the only problem is that I am terrible at writing stories... Every year I have a 5-7hr trip from my house to my college campus that I take about once or twice a month depending on events or holidays. Say what you want but it's saved me enough times that my V1 has paid for itself since the first month I had it.

I am not questioning V1's abilities at all. I'm sure we all have a few save stories on hand but some of those stories are just too good to be true.

    Default V1 Moments HEAVILY edited

Don't get me wrong, I own a V1.8 and love it. I am in his "archive" of V1 moments, and won one of the V1 vests. My V1 moment was so heavily edited, it sounds like something out of a movie. What is on his site and what I wrote are vastly different.

One other thing that truly bothers me, Car and Driver hasn't had a detector test since 2002. The detectors of today are vastly better and different than in 2002. Leads me to believe Valentine is involved. Let's be real, Valentine wins every Car and Driver test, and "you know who" makes sure that a Belscort product wins every one of his tests.

Thank god for GOL......the only one I trust.
