I've spent sleepless nights over whether to keep my V1 or revert back to my original trusty RX65. See my other posts for the last month. I drive a lot, have been a detector user since the original Escort etc.
It was never a question of the quality of the V1, but more of a "is it wrth spending $400.00 when I already have a great detector"
This is my first V1. I love the RX65 and because I have one from literally the day they released it, I suspect mine is a *hot one* It has one problem and that is laser falsing is greater than I would like. My original 8500 NEVER falsed on laser. If it beeped laser, it was real laser.
Many, many, many saves with the RX65.
Ok so the V1 has grown on me!
Love the arrows.
Solid construction, but bulky with the bracket still attached compared to the RX65. I have a small padded case from a Fluke Meter that I use to store it.
I like the concept of the window mount. Best of breed IMHO because it is easy to adjust/remove.
However, the dang suction cups just don't like to stick. I've used alcohol/Invisible Glass/etc to clean the windshield and still they are finicky. I use the large ones with better luck.
I too notice the laser falsing from the rear.
It happened last night, actually as I was going around a cloverleaf getting on the highway!
As I got on, it went nuts and I saw a high end Lexus, already on the highway, pass me, at which point the alerts stopped. Must have been something from that car.
I don't have the X band problem some people complain of.
I run little L most of the time with PoP off.
I still say the volume knob feels cheap for a detector of this class.
*****Make it black aluminum with flutes Mike!!! *****
The V1 seems to sniff out the LEO hiding up on embankments behind over passes better than the RX65. This is K and Ka bands.
This is highly subjective, but I travel the same roads all the time and LEO are creatures of habit.
I'm keeping the V1 because I like the company, as an engineer, the pics of construction sold me.
The tech support people have been great in answering a couple of minor questions.
I feel like I am buying into a quality product, not unlike the older Belscorts, that will last me a good long time.
I just don't get that feeling much anymore, and that's with most anything built these days.
So there you have it!
Another member of the V1 family.
