    Default V1 Rating (quick version)

    Guys I have been a V1 user since 1995. I felt that it was time for me to give my personal rating. This has nothing to do with GOL. GOL does not rate but just provides data for the reader to interpret. The V1 has been and still is my all time favorite detector. I am trying to be as unbiassed as possible.

    Looks= 5 (very basic look nothing flashy)

    Sensitivity=10 (Provides OUTSTANDING sensitivity on radar and laser)

    Quality=9 (solid quality)

    Support=9 (Great support with continuous improvement)

    Features=7 (would like to see frequency display, different tech than LED's etc. does have arrows and Bogey Counter)

    Falsing= 5 (with its superb sensitivity comes "falsing")

    Value= 5 (comes at a premium price)

    Ease of Use= 7 (tricky to program and understand at times)

    Ramp up= 9 (ramp up is great just a hair below the X50)

    Tone Alerts= 10 (very distinctive)

    Overall= 7.6
    RIP Duncan my BELOVED black lab son 8/7/99-3/23/11. I will miss you DEARLY.

    Looks good: This is how I would score it.

    Looks= 4 ( Visual Bands at night are useless, Looks Out Dated)

    Sensitivity= 10 ( The best hands down)

    Quality= 8 (quality control is not so good, i'm tired of being there beta tester for software.)

    Support= 9 (Mike the Tech is the greatest)

    Features= 4 ( Arrows *yawn*, Bogey Counter / Escorts is better)

    Falsing= 3 ( With great sensitivity comes annoying)

    Value= 5 ( To expensive, $400 dollar walmart finder)

    Ease of Use= 3 ( Programming is a joke )

    Ramp up= 8 (2nd best to the X50)

    Tone Alerts= 8 ( Good, but it's not that loud )

    Overall= 6.2

    Looks = 8 - To put all the info and arrows in that size is brilliant. I just don't know how others would make a basic design but yet functional. To me, the simpler the better. Only gripe is the LED colors all red. Could have been better.

    Sensitivity = 9 - A very good overall performer in all bands. Down side is forward facing radar and off axis(very small difference though)

    Quality = 8

    Support = 10 - VR is not perfect but is the best in the industry - had mine for 2 years but yet got free upgrade and free shipping.

    Features = 7 - Lacks automute like the X50 and no spec mode.

    Falsing = 8 - After using it for some time, i believe VR has improve by minimizing false alerts. When i muted rear antenna, made a very big difference. I felt like my V1 is quieter now with the rear antenna muted.

    Value = 6 - We always complain when the price is higher than regular ones and that includes me.

    Ease of Use = 5 - Programming is more complicated than the others.

    Ramp UP = 8 - Just second to X50.

    Tone Aerts = 7 - X and K band tones are almost similar specially with the first alert. X50 is the best so far IMO.

    Overall = 7.6

    My own real world experiences. I bunch the bands as a whole meaning X,K, Ka (all 3). Laser is also included

    The falsing has to be a "1" . The difference is like night and day to my 9500i. I get so annoyed with the falsing that I don't pay attention at times when I should be and this is with k automute, rear mute, and Big "L" mode. overall I would give this detector a "7". Without so much falsing, it would definitely be a 9 to 9.5.

    I haven't been using the V1 long enough to really thoroughly score it (as me after a year), but one thing I disagree with is the programming. Yes, you have to keep the list of which letters correspond to which function, but that's not DIFFICULT. Overall, the programming system just plain works simply and properly.

    And I'd rate its looks lower, I think. It's UGLY. But the good kind of ugly, like an A-10 Warthog.

    Sure any idiot can program it but what kind of an idiot would actually design something that retarded?

    Dip switches!!!

    If I want to turn POP off on my STi it simply says "POP OFF". If I want to return everything to the factory defaults it takes about 3 seconds.

    You shouldn't have to adapt to something that out of date.. we're in the 21st century FFS.

    Oh and I agree with the Staton's scores, he's hard but fair

    Lol, agreed

    if you find it very difficult to program i suspect you might not have graduated from 8th grade haha.

    I have always said the V1 needs a frequency display in addition to the bogey counter. Oh, and then lets add in some colored LED's (atleast for the different bands) so that noobs can tell the diffference at night before they learn the tones.
