    Default Did Not go off

Yesterday, July 7, 2005 I got a ticket when I was "shot" by a motorcycle officer in Galveston, TX. He showed me the unit -some sort of a gun. My V1 never went off. What do you think happened ? It has been working fine on the "broadcast" radars so far. Still goes off when near one of these.

Now I have 2 tickets in 6 months and thus have no need of a radar detector. I took the education course for the first one but cannot for the second. The third will be serious.

I am using the cruise control for the first time ever on a 2004 Subaru STI. This will be for three years (life of a ticket in Texas). Good thing I sold the Ferrari...

Any ideas what happened ? It is mounted on the visor pointing through the windshield. It was a real "trap". They had 2 officers writing tickets as fast as they could around a sweeping bend at a speed drop.

I just keep it on now for grins since I obviously cannot speed.

Obviously and there is no strip on the windshield obstructing the detector.
It was purchased in 2001. There is a K band on it...

Do you remember what the gun looked like? Any names printed on the side of it? MPH, Kustom, Stalker, LTI? Did the "business" end of the gun have any lenses on it, or was it just a flat panel?

If it had lenses, it was laser. If not, it was radar. If it was a MPH unit, they could have used POP mode which a 2001-vintage V1 won't detect reliably.

If it was laser, your V1 could have missed it if he aimed squarely at your plate and the V1 was mounted high.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Time for some laser countermeasures like Veil, the Laser Shield, a laser jammer like a Blinder or a Lidatek, or maybe a bra for your car. Upgrading the V1 for improved laser detection is a possibility, but still you may not benefit from any advanced warning if targeted directly first. Unless POP is used in your area or you want J alerts, radar detection maybe a little better on Ka band only with upgrade though. Good luck on not getting another ticket any time soon and buy the laser countermeasures NOW as a precaution even if you are using cruise control to make sure that you are below the limit by the time that the officer gets a reading. Believe me sports cars like yours are big fat targets so take action now because this will be a good investment even if you have to sell your STI as they can be used on other cars too.

Thought jammers were illegal ? Many years ago a cannonball racer friend of mine used jammers. Said he'd like to have seen see the officer's face when he went through the trap at 150 in a Pantera.

Next I'll see if an attorney can do anythiing. Not likely since the advent of computers. Used to be the attorney could "pull" the ticket for a fee...Have I dated myself ?
