Hi, i'm new to this forum and would like to introduce myself. My name's Ben, if you couldn't tell from the topic.
I have owned a total of 2 radar detectors to date. First one was an old X and K band unit from the early 90's. And my second unit was a Beltronics 890 that I got around 1999. After much review I found it to be the best at the time. And I've done two cross country trips around the US with it, logging over 20k miles from those trips alone, and the only pullover I got using that unit was when I thought I was in a 70mph zone but was actually in a 50mph zone when the radar detector went off. It even saved me from laser traps.
Well, my old Bel unit is ready to go, especially now that the LED display stopped turning on, and before that I have been noticing a lot of speed traps that it's stopped alerting to, so I figured it's finally about time to upgrade.
Now after much reading on the internet and especially in this forum, I've come to what was a very difficult decision for me (because I really liked the idea of the True Lock feature on the Escort 9500i, but saw too many problems being reported), so I've gone with my next choice which was tied between the Vector 995, Sti Driver, and the V1, and with further reading and especially with the latest tests showing how fabulous the V1 works I finally decided on a new Valentine One unit for myself. It should arrive sometime today and i'm really excited to check it out for myself.
I drive both a car and a motorcyle, so I will need to decide on how to hook it up to my 99' Honda Shadow VT600CD Cruiser. Any installation / mounting suggestions in this respect?
Anyway, I'll be sure to post feedback on how well this unit works in NYC for those interested. Take care all and safe driving!
