Dear RD.net Member,
If you own a valentine one radar locator you know just how hard it is to identify the band based on a visual alert alone in the day much less at night time. I have a great solution for you to overcome both the display and your face being red all the time. It is getting your concealed display modified to include different colors so they are much easier to identify.
Having different colors helps reduce the amount of time that your eyes are off the road and if placed correctly your modified concealed display can easily be seen in your peripheral vision thereby eliminating the amount fo time spent identifying which band is being detected.
I wish to share with you my experience with our very own DEADLYAP1 and how fantastic the results turned out with my order. I was so impressed that I had him redo my life speed display as many of you have here on the forum.
First, I went on ebay to find someone to do the modification for me as I would end up completely destroying my display if I did a DIY (Do It Yourself) job. So after some moments I came across someone who did just that. With ebay you can never be too careful so I did a complete investigation and research on the user before making any contact. At the time I didn't realize he was a member of this forum. All his feedback was positive and I was impressed with the pictures and even more that he did already modified or purchased displays.
With each e-mail I had an answer to my questions within mere moments of sending it. I was answered with through details to ensure that I understood everything 100% about the whole entire process and prices. I originally started with wanting my LS display redone but decided against it just in case everything wasn't up and up.
After enough reassurance that indeed there was nothing fishy about it I went ahead and placed my order. Keep in mind that this was after about 25 - 35 emails asking all different questions for different services and shipping costs and such. I ordered a brand new display with all blue for the strength meter and KA. I had X,K, and Laser as I had it on my LS display: green (X) yellow (K) and red (Laser) to have something that didn't feel totally different. I should mention that since I had requested 9 blue LED's my total would be higher then the general rate.
The very next day I was given my tracking number with priority service (USPS) and the day after that i had the display in my hands. I found that he had carefully packaged the display inside a brown box along with bubble wrap to ensure nothing broke or got damaged. Next, I unpacked it and plugged it in. WOW! was my exact words to myself. Not used to all the blue I had to sit back for a moment and take it all in. For not being drilled I must say that all the colors shone through clearly. I later went ahead and did so anyways to let even more light through.
I took it our for a test drive and enabled all bands so see the different colors. X band which I had done in green was bright! Keep in mind this is with the red plastic removed but not drilled yet. I could easily see the X band alert from all different locations. I tried in my instrument panel (speedometer and such), above tucked in the visor and so on. The blue LED's on the strength meter easily got my attention when I was trying not to look at the display. K band I was a little disappointed with because it was not nearly as bright as X band had been. It looked smaller in size. After contacting DEADLYAP1 I was told that the amber color LED's were made smaller but still used the same amount of power. Still, this made it harder to acknowledge K band without staring directly at the display.
KA band I had done in blue and since I couldn't find any KA I programmed K band off and used my Bushnell speedster II to trigger the V1 to KA band. I was most happiest with my color choice as blue like the strength LED's got my attention quickly even with trying not to look at the display directly. Laser well was red and although it wasn't bright (least bright of all the other LED's) it was easily distinguishable since the way the V1 sounds the laser alert it is easy to distinguish it from radar alerts.
After I drilled the holes K band did seem to brighten up a bit but not as much as I would have wanted. Still, it was visible from a glance. Overall, I was extremely impressed with the work done by DEADLYAP1 . He was always there to answer the smallest question with in 12 - 24 hours at the latest. I felt his prices were fair for what I had done. My total was $117 and that did include return shipping via priority shipping (USPS).
Now onto my LS display which I had decided needed a little modification since red (KA) wasn't easily viewable to me in the daylight. I was so impressed I placed my order (#2) and got the same if not better service as before. I shipped it out on a monday via priority. Checked to see it was received on tuesday and got an e-mail stating that the modification had been completed and it was on it's way back! You want to talk about in and out I was very happy to learn that in under a weeks time I had gotten two displays modified and back to me. Impressive to say the least.
When I received my display back I was really shocked because not only had he replaced the led's that burned out but he did a clean and professional job. He also replaced the outer housing or plastic as it was chip and damaged from past ideas gone horribly wrong. He replaced all except the front faceplate where the holes were already drilled so that the new LED's and order would go in flawlessly. I plugged it in and it works beautifully. Here are some pictures with the old casing that was replaced:

If you are considering having your concealed display modified like mine I strongly recommend DEADLYAP1 without a shadow of a doubt he is professional, fast, courteous, and reliable. I personally think he should call himself in and out display but that I will leave up to him. The total for my life speed re-modification was $50 plus return shipping. Also, since my LS display had seen better days he offered to replace the housing for no additional cost, but since I liked how it was drilled and clearly visible I decided against it. Additionally, in the process of completing my display the two amber led's gave out as I was aware of the problem beforehand so he replaced those for me for no additional cost as well.
I felt and feel very well taken care of. All my questions were answered quickly, professionally, and accurately. He was upfront with me throughout the whole entire process and kept me informed of everything that happened.
I would give him:
A A A A A A A A A A + out of 10 ace's for the whole entire procedure.
