Default V1 First Impressions & Programming Questions

I just got my 3.863 and wow it isnt everything I expected but I cant complain
K-band range is nuts; I pick up some falses from 2x the distance over my x50
I have noticed that detection of 35.5GHz Ka is superior over other detectors and provides a lot more advanced warning (hills and curves cut the warning of 35.5 down to 1 second before lock tone on my x50 in the worst case scenario)
I dont even have to talk about the arrows :P
my only beef with it has to be the k-band (maybe Ka too) ramp-up; at the onset of a threat the signal strength is at about 2-3 then as i pass by it stays at like 6-7. this doesnt seem like a big problem but to me, if the detector is sniffing out a very weak signal the signal strength should be around 1 right?

Anyway i have a few questions about the programming.
I already turned x-band and poop off so we dont have to go there...
    • Feature Character 5: making Ka signal strength more responsive. what exactly does it do and what do you guys think about this setting from experience?

    • Feature Character 6: False alarm guard on Ka. Ive heard somewhere that turning it off allows instantaneous detection of Ka. what do you guys think about this setting also

    thanks

    5) makes it ramp faster. . that's it . . the Strength LED that is. .

    6) Will make your v1 unbearable. . if you're cobra hunting - turn it off, else - leave it on.

    just to add:

5)doesn't change the range or effect the v1's detection of Ka band in any way, since Ka band is the hardest to detect of all bands (less range) when you approch a source and get 1 v1 bleep, you are alot closer to the leo than say if they were running k band or x band radars, where u would get 1 bleep, and usually be very far away from them.

    6)dont mess with this

the ramp up on the V1 is really accurate. If you ever encounter a K cop on a straight interstate it will ramp up perfectly. Its hard to use door sensors as a radar source to evaluate ramp up. They don't have great range and they don't always go through the entire sweep as you get close and pass by. Once you encounter a real threat on a straight road you will see that the ramp up is A+

I would leave the KA sensitivity at its default value. No reason for it to blast away at you. Maybe its a good option if you have a loud car and want the alert loud.

If K band falses are driving you nuts in urban areas you can mess around with the K band auto mute settings. Keep in mind they only work in the l and L modes. A mode turns off mute settings. Also in l mode you get a visual alert when muted but in L mode the auto muted alert is completely suppressed.

I have thought to myself the ramp up on door openers isn't that hot either as I never had a full alert....
My v1 is used and needs a TUNEUP Mine only alerts half the time and is totally nonresponsive the other half the time....
Mine is going to v1 when I get the time.

    This answers my question.

So leave the Ka band guard on (default setting).

The programming is not so bad actually. I love this thing.

Wow, I know I will incite beef here but I still enjoy the V1 ramp up and tones much more than the X50. To me the X50 just sounds like a chirping machine that is all wound up with no individuality to its tones.

Personally, I prefer V1 ram up.

The V1 ramp up is very accurate and should be at 1 bar for very weak signals. K band falses do tend to ramp it up higher though because they don't seem to be very far reaching. I usually never pick up doors from farther than 1000 feet or so. Well, there is no way to be exact but its sure not like picking up a real leo on k band or a speed sign.

As for Ka, you may have increased sensitivity on Ka turned on which would cause the ramp up to be more sensitive than usual. By default, that should be turned off.

I love option 5 and I always run with it enabled. My Trans-Am is loud with the T-Tops off and the stereo up so by the V1 over-reacting early I get a louder alert...

As per the ramp-up my 3.813 is flawless.
