I don't run into many anyways, which is normally a good thing, but after a few hours of evening and bar closing driving, still nothing. Maybe today - tonight I will find some. Passing a few falsing spots it does at least work.
The V1 is rev 3.863. I am not sure how bright the arrows are supposed to be, but it seems like they are designed for the driver behind me, day or night. They do dim with the display, but are still much brighter overall. I think I will call V1 next week to see if tinting them would void the warranty.
Its "different" so some things will take getting used to. My only real complaint, besides the bright arrows, and that it looks like a V1 in the car from any distance away, is the sound for Ka, the Dee-Doo-Dah for an added bogey, and that I can't dim it more or manually. The sound for Ka is a double beep K which is confusing. Maybe I will get used to it, but I think it makes it hard to tell the level and what band between K and Ka. When going through a multiple bogey area the Dee-Doo-Dah gets mixed in with everything else. I know that when in doubt, slow down, and on the open Hwy, it might not be as bad, but it makes it hard to tell what the new alert and new alert level is.
An initial guess is that it is about 25% more sensitive overall than my Uniden, but the Uniden did pick up an X band over a hill before the V1. It was the only good testing spot I found from some storefront in town. At 10mph coming over a hill the Uniden alerted blind about 1-2 sec before cresting the hill. The V1 alerted at the crest. Then they were about the same. One detector was removed and replaced with the other so they were in the roughly the same position. Its unscientific, but now I really want to test the Uniden out.
I can see why all the settings are important. In suburban driving in A mode it can be chatty. In a suburb town with a "Main St." it almost never shut up even in Big L mode, but that is not a place for an RD. Overall compared to A mode, my Uniden was quieter, but only because it picks up any Ka which blocks out multiple low level X and K warnings. lol There was only an intermittent Ka beep from the Uniden most of the time where the V1 was changing the X and K bogey count constantly for low level signals.
I also ran the V1 with Option 6 DN (Ka False Guard off) and POP on. The V1 was still much quieter on Ka than my Uniden. The V1 only alerted (strongly) to 2 falses that were a 3 on the Uniden (about the same strength signal). With Option 6 UP it never alerted to them. Overall I didn't get much for Ka falses.
In town, I did get up to 8 sources with all the arrows and X+K lit. I couldn't find what the max count for the V1 is, but 8 rings a bell.
PS I never ran the V1 and Uniden side by side, but I did power them up in the car at the same just to see if the Uniden would set the V1 off. It didn't. Maybe it needs to be further away. I know at the right distance 1999-2001 V1's would pick up a weak signal.
