    Default I bought an 8500 X50 today

I am not replacing my new V1 (that will never happen), but my son was in town from college for the night & has a 4 hour drive back to school tonight.

I realized it would be a good idea to get him an RD for his Acura TL, but I think he will be better off with an 8500 for a few reasons. My son will never mess with the programming like I will, he will simply plug it in & go. He also would not have much use for an RD that falses too much, if the RD started doing that he would either turn it off or simply ignore it.

We bought the 8500 from Bestbuy for $300 & then used it in my truck all day today to try it out. It only went off once, but that was a for real alert on a Ka band blast & it ramped up perfectly (totally unlike the 9500i I got to try for a while) & gave a good mile or more warning.

I was totally impressed with the new unit, I still like my V1 better (mainly because I love the modified hidden remote) but I would certainly be very happy with either choice.

There both beasts when it comes to detection. Though I hear the v1 is way better on laser over the x50...Also I have the rev 5 x50 which is better than the new x50's " based on my experience" and a lot of others...
I would buy a new x50 though, a good first rd for anyone...

300 for an escort... ouch. for another 60 bux you couldve had something that crushes the competition.

    then again, that's just me.

True, but I see his reasoning behind it. My x50 is also a very quiet detector. Even in highway mode it misses a lot of the k band door alarms because of its filtering.

Don't get me wrong, the V1 is still king but its not for everyone.........only the hardcore users out there who want the earliest possible detection. I have an "all bogeys all the time" kind of mentality so it works great for me.

Sometimes I miss the quietness of my RX65. But, its a sacrifice I'm willing to make if I want to pick up some I/O up ahead.
