V1 Strange Behavior

All of a sudden, my V1 (1.8 no POP) is acting strange. I just realized yesterday that X band is virtually dead. It will pick up the LO from my BEL 985 but only intermittently. It barely responds at all to my radar tester.

On K band, it is totally missing some K band door openers and motion sensors that it uysed to pick up easily. This is happening with more than one of my usual K band sources so I can't attribute it to a change in one location. And the BEL is picking up these K band sources just fine. I did come upon a real police K band radar and the V1 alerted much sooner than the BEL. But the V1 was still missing some K band sources that the BEL was picking up easily. This is very unusual. It's like the K band is working intermittently.

The last unusual thing is that the V1 is sending out Ka band warnings in areas that normally are X band motion sensors and door openers.

I know it needs to go in for service, but I was wondering if anyone has had these things happen to their V1 before?

I've heard similar reports from one or two others on the forum but never seen it myself. When the V1 won't alert to a K-band door opener you know you have a problem

ops: . Good luck getting it serviced. Hopefully they'll be able to get you back up-and-running before long. It could be as simple as the LO going out of calibration, which wouldn't be a huge deal for VR to tune.

It's the on/off nature of K band that is really wierd. I had the K band an old BEL XKR700 quit, but it was not intermittent. The bad thing about that old BEL is that it was hard to tell X from K band audio alerts, they both sounded like chirping birds! So I didn't realize right away that K band was dead. There was still a lot of X band around at the time so it appeared to be working.

they are weird things...

i hope its just a case of adjusting something.... vr will soon fix it!
i hope it doesnt cost much.....

Then I have to decide whether to get the POP upgrade or not......

I didn't see it mentioned, but did you possibly reprogram your V1? If so, I'd set it back to the factory settings and then see how it responds to the X and K bands. But definitely upgrade when possible. My 2 cents.

Thanks for the info and recommendation. I do have the factory settings right now and no "P" shows up when I power it up.

No P when powering up? Yikes!

Good luck brother. I'd get a spare to use while I send in the V1 to VR for an upgrade.

I forgot to mention I have the non-POP version 1.8. If it shows a P it means the factory settings have been changed.

I do have a backup, a BEL 985. I had it on this morning then powered up the V1. The BEL went nuts on K band for about 60 seconds, even after I powered the V1 down. Eventually the K band warning stopped and it seems to be ok now.
