Default windshield mount vs Visor mount for the V1

With them crazy suction cups I prefer the visor mount. The suction cups appear nice but I'm sick of them falling off and even better the visor mount is less visable. I have talked to the techs at V1 and they agree that there is no range difference between the visor mount and the window suction mount. Living in a crime area in California, its so easy to take off the visor mount. What does everyone think about the range of the radar detector difference- and what does everyone think about the visor mount? I tend to love it! I can clip it on my BMW and then my Cadillac.

    thanks

It's entirely an issue of convenience.

Before you ENTIRELY discard the idea of using the windshield mount, I suggest that you try this:

First clean and dry the area of the windshield where you want to mount it. Then take the largest set of suction cups that came with the V1, make sure they're COMPLETELY clean, and attach them to the windshield mount. Put a very small amount of water on the surface of the suction cups (some people suggest saliva, but I suspect that saliva leaves a bit of residue, so tap water should leave you with a slightly better seal). Mount it on the windshield and carefully push every last air bubble out from underneath the suction cups using your fingertip or fingernail. Make sure there are NO air bubbles left, as the trapped air will heat up and expand, breaking the seal. Also remember that over a period of a few years, the rubber in the suction cups can break down and/or harden, so you need to replace them periodically.

If you can get the windshield mount to stick that way, great! I prefer the windshield mount because it gives you more flexibility in terms of mounting position. If you can't, don't worry about it. The visor mount shouldn't hurt you any, so long as you don't knock the V1 off or something, and you don't drive with your visor down (duh).
