this might not happen in San Diego, but in the busy city there is too much traffic for people to look at RD's (unless its on a quiet road). No one can see my RD because Its a visor mount with Rear tinted windows, black car. No one can see crap!

In my experience, regardless if you have a RD, you are being used as a rabbit, cause only the first car will get pulled over, or the last one to slow down if it passes other cars that were in front of it.
Before I had a RD, and after for that matter, I would always try to speed with a group of card just ahead of me. I would go relatively slow, then when a couple af fast moving vehicles would pass me, I would try to stay a reasonable distance behind them. In Cali, before recently, CHP would almost exclusively pace people. So I would still keep a good look at the RVM.
When I'm without a detector I definitely hang with someone with one, even if it's a cobra. The level of the detector they use dictates how close I keep to them. I try not to be obnoxious about it though.
When I am with a detector though, I still like hanging with someone else with one though. Sometimes I try to reach for my detector and make it known, and see if the other driver will do something. Games almost
The best is when I have a real fast rabbit with a detector. Feel way more confident that way, since normally, even though a rabbit may jab on the brakes after (s)he sees the leo, there's still a high risk for me. But if they can get an alert slightly beforehand, even if too late for them, it may be before I get an alert and I'll usually be much safer
I think if a car behind you keeps pace and follows you when you slow down and change lanes, they're definitely trying to use you for your radar detector.
I've had people follow me to the right lane and slow down to 65mph (when all I was doing was trying to get them to stop tailgating me). And then speed back up and stay with me when I accelerated. Only possible explanation could be they really wanted to tailgate me for some reason or they saw my radar detector and wanted to use me as a rabbit.
People just don't tailgate me, that's all. If they ARE tailgating me, then either I need to get over, or I need to go faster.
Of course that doesn't apply to heavy traffic where everybody is tailgating everybody, just because it's Miami and that's what you DO here.
