I think I might be able to pick one up, would paying $450 be reasonable?

Why the hell would you pay 450? You not live in the U.S

    3.813 is all hype.

There is no proof beyond a sample of 1 or 2 detectors tested by members that show its any better than other revisions.

That is statistically inconclusive to make statements about the whole population of 3.813 detectors.

I swear by my 3.813 and when it was all said and done I paid around $450 for mine. Mine did great during our August testing as well.

Just know going in that if you get a 3.813 you have to send it in to get tuned up. So that's an extra $40 dollars and I opted to get a new case & lens so that was another $30.

    The advantages are:

No "J" feature. In 6 months I might have gotten one false Ka alert.
    No Pop Mode. Useless technology.
Better X & K band filtering when set to default. I've tested this against the 3.826 & 3.858 and the 3.813 was filtering out the same alerts they where going crazy with.

    As per disadvantages:
    Harder to find.
Going to cost you the same or more than a new unit with warranty.
No "E" so if something goes wrong you have to use your instincts.

If you can find one I say go for it, because by chance if you dont' like it just put it back on eBay and you'll get your money back or make more. So there is not much risk.

3.813's are worth the same as other used V1's.

Staton's on the other hand, is worth only 50 bucks. I've seen it, you don't want it. 8)

Ya, it looks the same like other V1's.

radar1985, if it makes you " feel good " having the 813 version, go for it.
