Default Why'd you chose a V1 over the others?

I'm just curious about why you chose to buy a V1. :?:

Since getting back "into" traveling with an RD, I've come to realize that people either love the V1 or hate it. I don't know why this is. Personally, I chose the V1 because of the reputation as a top detector and because of the concealed display.

I don't hate or flame the Escort or Bel RDs. If they had concealed displays, I would have considered them too. But since they don't offer the concealed display, I didn't look any further than the V1.

I love my V1. I think the arrows are great, as they have pointed out that stalker coming up from behind me in traffic. I'm glad I bought it. And I'm not against Escort or Bel either.

I chose the V1 because (at the time, circa 2000) it was the top dog. This is no longer the case now with the Escort X50 being about the same or better in radar sensitivity and less falsing, but back then it was just the 8500.

The arrows, bogey counter, and remote display were also factors. I just wanted a top notch detector to replace the false-crazy Bel Vector STi I was using.

And once you're in the V1 club, you're set for life, thanks to VR's upgrade policy. I upgraded once last year and will again some day whenever they come out with "3rd generation" POP, or some other innovation.

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

I had the X50 and everytime it beeped i saw myself looking around where it is

even the passengers in my car ask me where it is and all i say is i have no idea

so i got a V1 mainly for the ARROWS

performance of radar is equal to the X50....laser... different story

I like the arrows, sensitivity is great, and upgradability is a definite plus. I'm sure the X50 or RX65 would do it for me, too, but the V1 is my pick.

If I had $400 laying around the house, I'd buy a V1 to compliment the X50! Theres no question that the V1 is an incredible detector.

    the arrows.

Never tried another RD before. Once I got it took it for a few long drives I'm sold.

The arrows were the main reason, and since my budget was more flexible, i got a V1. I was in the market for someting with Pop capability and increased ka and laser performance. Not to mention a concealed display that gives me more than a flashing dot.

I've found it most invaluable on road trips and open highway driving situations.
Any strong signal gets immediate attention as with any detector, but from there if i don't see any LEO's, then i look at the arrows to see where that came from.
For weakers signals it works great. Instead of wondering whether the weak signals are in front or behind, i now know. 2 blips within a mile or so without the arrows would not tell me much, other than i may be travelling in the same direction as the source, so do pick up the pace, or wait for miles to try and figure out where it's coming from. with the arrows, if it's a weak rear signal, i can keep an extra eye on who is coming up behind me. in front, i can see who i'm catching, and if it's a car in front of me with a junk detector then i know i can quickly move on.

Not to mention getting a blip in front, then a moment later a blip from the rear as i pass by a vehicle. the strength can be the same, but i've quickly id'd the source and move on.

I would love to see Escort come out with a true concealed display that mimicked the detector, like V1 has. that and if they beefed up the laser performance, i would have another option to look at. talk about a hidden setup. i wouldn't need to have the detector visible at all, then i could throw a second unit in the back, fully hidden, run dual concealed displays, and get much better accuracy of direction, without the occasional ghosting and bouncing i get on the V1....... ahh... someday.

Anyway, that's why i bought it. i love it, and it works great for me, but as with any detector, it still has room for improvement.

its easier to understand what your dealing with, on the bogey side nice clear digit, i also like the progressive signal strengh of the v1 it goes up slow beeping to a fast beeping as you approach the radar.

where as my snooper beeps say 2 3 times and then goes off and then does it again, but its only got 2 range leds! where as the v1 gives you a proper audio indication of how much range your getting before the trap! aswell as having an 8 signal led!

the rear antenna is good and the arrows are good when your dealing with city gatsos and gatsos near traffic lights! and some hidden mini gatso hidden in the bushes around town!

i soppose its all down to personal pereferance.

Because it's better than others at laser... and I'm in Ohio.

    Any other questions? 8)
