3.863 Issue - No alert from Speed Sign

Today I was driving home from work, and picked up some KA from a piggy on the side of the road. Nothing out of the ordinary. But about 1 mile later I passed one of those automatic speed signs that gives you your speed. (It was facing the other direction of traffic)

I thought it must have been turned off because the V1 said nothing as I approached. Then after I passed the sign, I look in my rear view mirror and see my speed prominently displayed on the sign! WTF! No beeping! Even worse, I had picked up this exact signs K band alert on the way into work.

Another mile later I picked up a false K from a construction truck (Arrows confirmed where it was coming from). So I know my K was at least somewhat working. Any idea what could have caused this laps in coverage? Should I send it back to get looked at? It kind of dinged my confidence in my V1.

Do other detectors pick up this type of signal? I know VR said "oh there's no need to detect this type of signal so we didn't include it"...ummm....what if piggy is babysitting the sign?...ruh roh raggy....

Other detectors don't have sophisticated enough filtering routines to discern FMCW from police radar, so they alert to it anyway. IANAL but I'm fairly certain a cop is not allowed to use a FMCW speed sign as a court approved speed measurement device.
