How to test laser performance?

Is there any common everyday item that can set the V1's laser alert off for laser testing purpose? Thanks!

Any idea how "thin" the laser beam is from these devices? Is it anywhere close to the laser used by LEO? Should I aim it at the front end of my car to simulate a laser ambush?

They are useless in simulating the spread or intensity of an actual police LIDAR beam. No device that I know of can do so other than a LIDAR gun. These devices I mentioned can be used to make sure the diode works at all, not for comparative tests to represent any real world scenarios.

My laser goes off behind any GMC truck pressing its brake. It appears that the 3rd brake light LED emits something in the LIDAR band. YMMV.

As I said before, all of these observations are of false-positives, they set off the laser detection circuitry but not in the same manner a police LIDAR gun would.... It's useful for determining if your detector's laser diodes are completely dead or not, but not useful for any kind of performance testing, and certainly not comparative testing between two detectors.
