Confusion.. Bel 955 vs V1
I have narrowed my choices. I got a tix $188.50 .. not trying to spend twice, so i want a good/relaible detector. Been reading some reviews on the V1 and the Ka is pretty dismal. Bel 955 based on the GOL tests seem to perform pretty well.
Not trying to spend the xtra $$ because of hype.. the amount i spend must be well spent.. looking for some feedback
Umm... what? The V1's Ka is dismal? That's news to me. The V1 is money well spent -- its bogey counter / locktone, automute programmability, laser sensitivity, and directional arrows are unmatched by any detector, and it has plenty of performance to go around.
Of course, the V955 is a great detector too and a fraction of the price. Your deciding point between the two units should be whether or not you plan on using a passive laser countermeasure which would clearly benefit from the V1's superior laser sensitivity, and whether you find the bogey counter and directional arrows to be a valuable tool.
There have been threads here recently about various owners' experience with the arrows (see the General section, perform a search) and the V1's website has lots of good examples of situations where the arrows and bogey counter come in handy.
Also in the low-cost realm consider the Whistler XTR-690/Pro-78. They did not perform as well in GOL but their sensitivity has been improved by a recent update which many owners have reported back positively about. VeilGuy has commented that the change associated with this update, on his blog, makes his Pro-78's Ka alerts in the real world nearly coincide with his STi. And let's face it: nobody beats Whistler when it comes to CS and standing behind their products 100%.

It performs very similarly to the Escort 8500 X50 which so many forum members have and rave about.

I just bought my g/f a V1....took it out of the box...put it in the car and went for a ride to get some food. We are on the highway and it goes off with the arrow to the back....now being a complete newbie to this I was like that's weird....a minute goes by and it keeps on getting stronger and stronger and a state cop car flies by.
