I've had RD's since I was 16 or about 25 years. Cobra Trapshooters, Uniden RD-9, Escorts, the first V-1 out in 1994. I went for a while without a radar detector until I picked up an RX-65 in 2004 or so or whenever they first come out. Anyway, I'm not a newbie when it comes to radar detectors and I'm not just being fickle.
I bought a V-1 February 14 of 2006. I sent it in twice due to sensitivity issues and problems with the rear antenna seeming more sensitive than the front. More often than not, I'd see the PO before the V-1 would go off. Terrible Ka range, but decent K range. Again, I sent it in twice before pawning it off to some poor dude on E-bay.
I bought a Bel 955 just to keep me company since then for $100 about 6 months ago from a local truck stop (yes a screaming deal) that seemed to do as well or better than my RX-65 and stomped the guts out of the 3.826 V-1 I got rid of.
I just bought a used 3.858 from a friend just to help him out in a time of need figuring I could resell it on E-bay.
The thing is, I'm not getting rid of it anytime soon. This is a great detector that actually works pretty dang decent and seems quite a bit better than my 955.
Here's the question of the decade for me:
I sent my POS 3.826 in twice and Mike (not Mike V but the tech) said he put new guts in it increasing the sensitivity on Ka band by 2db and that I would have the best V-1 on the street. Not so. I sent it in again and it came back the same way or worse and still a POS.
So what gives at V-1 that they fail to recognize the issues and keep sending back a worthless detector??? If it weren't for my friend I would have told anyone who asked to stay away from the new V-1's and go with a el cheapo Bel 940 or 955.
