    Default New Guy Questions

    Hello,

Got a V1 for Christmas and when I hooked for the first time it displays an “A” in the bogey display. Is this the mode I want to run it in or would the small “L” or the large “L” be better? I will admit I am having some difficulty understanding the instructions in the manual.

    Thanks for any help. Doug.

A mode stands for "All Bogeys", meaning that your V1 will immediately alert to ANY detections that it detects (aside from any bands you have turned off in programming). This is generally used for highway driving as there are little falses on the highway.

Little L (Logic mode) is the mode you run in when you want the V1 to mute all X band detections until they get very strong. This mode is also for if you have K band automute set.

I do not know anything about Big L (Advanced Logic) but I know it is more filtering. I run in A mode most of the time because I know where my V1 picks up false alerts/what they are. Although, I'm experimenting with Little L because X band is not used here except for Portland (which I travel to sometimes) and there are a lot of X band door openers. Somebody else will come and explain in more detail.

Basically what big L does is that whatever little L would mute, big L will not display at all. So for example, X-band under 4 bars will not even show up, and then once it rises past that it suddenly appears at that level. I have not verified but automuted K-band stuff should also entirely suppress the alert in big-L mode.

Big-L decreases your awareness of a signal but in really noisy areas, it's a good feature. Let's be frank -- what the V1 calls 4-bar is often entirely below the detection sensitivity of competitors

I am very wary of using any of the logic modes because I do not want K band alerts affected at all. K band is the only speed measuring tool that my local PD uses.

So, if I used little L and had nothing else touched (like K band automute), the K band alerts would be the exact same? Thanks.

Actually, no. Little L will mute a K-band signal under strength 2 if it's accompanied by some X-band bogeys and also from the rear (i.e. passed supermarket)

That's really a pretty weak rule and I wouldn't worry about using it where K-band LEOs are around.

Hell even if there WERE k-band LEO's in my area, I would still use 4-bar 10-20sec automute. It helps the threatening alerts "stand out" amongst the supermarkets on your path.

Then if I used K band automute, A mode would disregard all of that, right? The automute would only work in Logic/Adavnced Logic?

Exactly -- in A mode none of the automutes happen. The only suppression settings that stick in A mode are X/K/Ka/Laser OFF (the first 4 options).

So, even in a K-band heavy area, I still would recommend you to consider programming in 20 secs or so of K-band 4-bar automute (probably don't do rear automute) and at least that should make city driving more peaceful, and any time you want to get all alerts, switch to A mode.

Cool, thanks. I set it up for 7 second K band automute (unmute at 4 lights) so I'll test that out and see if I like more/less time.

is there a way to overwrite automute like in the Belescorts?
For example, there 2 speed signs on both directions on my way to work; I usually mute it on K band, but I usually encounter Ka band in this are as well.
