    Default curious about something?

when I install the V1, on my windshield, in my 03 chevy express van, it ALWAYS looks as if its pointing to the LEFT, never just level and straight forward, standing in front of the van? and if I raise one of the suction cups up,it sits angled? am I doing something wrong? or, is it just my winshield? I have only had it for MAYBE 2mos. now, so be easy on me.

my x50 had the same problem, I just bent the metal holder all to ****e.

    Thanx guys

most likely the curvature of your windshield where you place the v1. i have mine to the left of my rvm so it points slightly to the left

do you also own an express van? I put mine just below the rvm, up top I have a tint and have read that area is a no-no? although, you would think it would make for better range??

If your tinting is done via metallic paint it will lower the radar sensitivity. Either way it will lower the -laser- sensitivity, but a laser strike is basically an automatic ticket notification without a laser jammer.

If you want to test the range issue, find a speed sign or a K false (like an automatic door). Test out the range of your detection on dash, then come back and try it with your V1 on top.

Most windshield "blue strips" don't affect radar reception, and Mike Valentine conjectures on his website that the reduction of glare to the laser diode likely will be a net win over loss of sensitivity at night with respect to laser, so it might even be beneficial to laser reception at daytime.

I find that I have the same problem. No matter how hard I try to get it level pointing straight back, it still curves a bit to the left. I started a thread about this but none of it was of help.

no i drive an old school bonneville haha but mounting 6 inches higher could give you around 1/10 mile extra range, but in a van you're already higher than most cars. the most important thing on the fact of mounting high is mounting the v1 where it can "see" over most cars. and jdong nailed the fact related to tint strips in his post

I drive an 04 Chevy 2500 Utility van, no idea if thats close to what you have, I mount my detector directly under the RVM (Its an Escort and Escort advises the exact opposite of what Valentine suggests in regards to the tint strip, follow your manufacturers instructions, they know their products better than anyone else), I don't have to bend my bracket in any weird way to solve left and right problems. I have bent it though to make it more level up and down.

The V1 bracket is plastic though and can not be bent like this right? At least thats my understanding. I know I race motocross, much on the bike is plastic and you crash often which leads to the plastic typically becoming distorted in ways you would not prefer. What I do is heat the plastic up just enough to soften it with a heat gun, then I can bend it into the shape I need and hold it as it cools back down. It keeps the shape then that I force it into and want to achieve. Maybe you could do something like this?

As far as the van though, center of my windshield causes no problems like your describing. I could see this happening if mounted to the left or right of the RVM, but can't think of any reason why you would have this problem in the center.

Is it possible your RVM isn't actually in the center of the vehicle, maybe off set closer slightly to the drivers side? It could be just an optical illusion that you think the RVM is in the center and in reality its not. You could cut a piece of string or tape the exact length of your windshield (from outside the van would likely be easier), fold it perfectly in half and hold that half up to one side or the other. This would tell you exactly where the true center of your windshield is.
