    Default just to be fair...

before I make a final decision on my 9500i (which I love), I am going to give the v1 another try. Will use it mainly along I10, US59, I610, and Beltway8 in Houston. Plan on seeing how quiet I can keep it with the L modes and what not.

Run it in A mode first. Then program it how you like and see how it does.

You have two breeds of detectors, one trying to give you maximum awareness and one that can be very very quiet, too quiet in fact.

As long as you respect the technology you can not go wrong with either.

Well, this is the MAJOR BATTLE of Radar Detectors.

Escort Passport 9500i vs. Valentine One

Personally, I want to own both one day. But with the money I had to barely spare, I bought the V1 first.

If you need the detector to work in Houston or any urban environment for that matter you need the Escort. Minimum falsing is a must so you will pay attention to the alerts you get. Trust me. The Escort will not miss a true threat.

I have thought of getting an x50 or an rx65 specifically for use in Houston, Dallas, Detroit...urbanized area where I drive, and keeping the V1 for other use on the rural interstate and long stretches of road...hardwire both and turn on off and the other one as needed...

I see no difference between V1 and a Bel (which I would assume to be the same as a X50), when you pass a drug store or anthing that has K band, each detector is going to alert "false".

If you really want to go around town and start locking out freq with a 9500, have at it but I would think eventually your going to lock out practically a SIGNIFICANT portion of your detection especially in an urban area that will have drug stores, etc, each mile.

I will keep dreaming of a signature recognition that can differentiate between real or false (police radar vs door sensor, etc).

You're better off just taking the extra step and getting the 9500i for this, you're not going to be gaining anything by just getting another noisy detector to use in the urban areas. Better still, why not just integrate GPS into your current V1 with a Cheetah mirror? Then you'll still have your V1 you love so much, but all the benefits of being able to auto silence the annoying urban false alerts with GPS integrated into your V1. The GPS mirror is also cheaper than buying a new second detector, not to mention the obvious advantages this would have for you since you already know the behavior of your V1 inside and out.

I live and mostly drive in a pretty large suburban area of Memphis, so I suppose either a V1 or a 9500i would be good for me...I currently have a V1 and although I do get some falses when I pass strip malls and such, I've learned to get used to it.
