Default v1 mute button; screen goes blank

i just got my mute button all sodered up and working. (rj11 phone line, black and yellow wires to momentary switch) now whats bothering me is that when i hit the switch this morning, my display goes blank til i let off the switch, shows A, then will go back to the reading it had before with band, strength and how many within another quick blink of an eye. is this normal or do i have something fudged on the wiring. i have the hardwire, and the mute is in the accessory slot. i dont have a conceiled display hook up yet as that is arriving today.

You cannot go by colors of the wire alone, you must go by the position of the wire in the RJ-11 plug, because the colors will be in reversed positions depending on which end of the cable you are working with.

If you reversed the mute pins, then when you press the button instead of grounding the mute pin, you'll actually be shorting 12V to the V1's data line (!).

So if I was you, I would go back and check that you connected to the correct wire positions.

Yes, it is probably wired backwards or something like what Jim said. I made sure that when I made mine I had the correct perspective.

thanks. i'm very anal when it come to fit and finish.

i'm still trying to think where i want to put it for a temp solution. i really want to use one of my cruise control buttons (resume) to handle it. i wouldnt even have to take my hands off the steering wheel

Change the switch to 'foot-switch'. Like the older cars that had the high beam switch on the floor.

Foot switch would be cool. Just don't put it somewhere where you'll accidentally hit it and break it off. I'm glad you got the wiring all figured out. Your car rocks.
