Sorry if this should be in the local region or not but since I used my V1 I'll post here...
Ok I was driving in the middle lane on 280 West (near exit 14Aish) and was doing probably 75 in a 65. I see in my rear view mirror a white police interceptor car that had no lights (meaning strobe lights on top of the car like police do) coming up from behind in the left lane. I immediately slow down b/c I don't want to take any risks.
As he passes me, I notice that nothing is on his car - there is no logo saying NJ State police or anything painted on his car. All he had a typical cop car has is that search light near the driver's side window. I get a glimpse of him and he is wearing a big, green coat and so I'm not sure if he was wearing a uniform or not. I'm like hmm maybe this guy isn't a cop. I get in the left lane behind him and I see his license plate only has 5 letters "SG1*21" (*=NJ State symbol on license plate) and all it says is "Garden State" like every other license plate on normal cars. However, on his trunk, he did have two large antennas. I didn't think much of it.
He goes into the middle and I slowly pass him going about 75 in a 65. All of a sudden, he gets behind me and BAM Full Blast I/O X band. He continues to follow me with radar on blasting me from behind for about 30 seconds. I get into the right lane, he passes me, gets ahead a bit and then blasts the car in front of him again with I/O X band. When he passes me, I then notice a laptop opened on his dashboard (did not see it the first time)
Here are my questions.
1) Was he a cop?
2) Do all cop cars have to say "State Government" on the license plate (atleast in NJ) or anything else that proves/shows they are a cop?
3)Are only state police allowed to monitor traffic on major highways or can local police in that region enforce traffic as well?
4) If he wasn't a cop, I'm guessing he was a regular guy who was playing around with me?
P.S. - My V1 is not hardwired so you can see the wire connecting to the cigarette lighter. So he def saw that I had a radar detector.
Car looked almost like this below (no hub caps though)...
