# Thread: Which angles light up which arrows?

1. ## Which angles light up which arrows?

X50 owner here but I was wondering for the side arrows, at what angle does the V1 decide that the source is from the side?

Like, 0/360 would be front, 90/270 is def side, but what about 55, 160, etc? Does it light up both the side and back or what? I've always wondered what the usefulness of the arrows would be if you didnt know at what angle is refering to if that makes any sense..

2. around 60 with nothing on both sides of the car reflecting the signal

3. So your saying it lights up the right side arrow when it detects radar coming from 60-120 degrees..Is this a fact or just from experience?

4. Take a look at all the Valentine One videos you can find here and on You Tube. You'll get a good feeling of their usefulness and how they work.

5. Besides the obvious, if the source if directly perpendicular 90 degrees on the side of you, generally speaking, the side arrows illuminate roughly 50 feet before and after the source... like I said, rough estimate. It depends on circumstance.

6. SpeederX50 - to specifically answer your first posts' question, there is no "right arrow"...there is a front arrow, there is a back arrow, and there is the side arrows (plural).

With two antennae (front and back) the V1 cannot distinguish between right and left. A signal 80 deg to the right will look like a signal 80 deg to the left.

I have found that if the signal is sitting right next to the street and I pass it within 20 feet or so, the side arrows don't blink till I am right next to it. There is more of a gradual front-to-side-to-back motion in the arrows if the LEO is sitting back from the road a bit.

Even having my V1 only 3 weeks or so, I say it is well worth it for me to know whether the LEO is behind me or not. Case in point:

I was entering a gradual looping onramp and picked up a Ka signal getting stronger. halfway down the ramp, the signal switched to the side, and then the rear. It stayed at full 8 bars for a while till I went around the next corner, but I knew the LEO was sitting in the construction site on the other side of the highway nabbing people racing through the change from 65mph to 45mph. Granted, I would have figured it out eventually with any radar detector as the signal faded, but the arrows gave me (what I feel was) a quicker/better situational awareness... I have not owned any detector before the V1, but I really like the signals it gives. I'm still sorting out the audio alerts, and REBinc is currently building me a colored remote display which will help a lot, but right now if it beeps I slow down!

7. o the arrows are useful...say u pick up a blip of K band radar on the highway then it goes away...it could be a cop shooting instant on.....with a v1 u pick up the K in front..then it goes side to side, then behind...it could be a pharmacy next to the highways...but u will have the peace of mind knowing that it is behind u

Isn't that the truth.

And if it is a LEO running K you know well ahead of time that he is up ahead of you.

9. yep it is

10. I had an experience the other day (before I got my V1 back from VR) - I was driving on the freeway with my V995 (tec mode) and I got a Ka 34.7 alert for a couple of seconds. I have NEVER seen 34.7 used by WSP so I was extremely curious as to what this was. It alerted for a couple of seconds and then dropped off and I never picked it up again. I felt myself REALLY wishing I had the arrows to see if it was up ahead or behind me. WSP (here at least) likes to come up behind cars in their unmarked cruisers and blast with IO from behind. I had NO idea where this 34.7 was coming from - if I caught a reflection from something or the LEO was up ahead using IO and already nabbed a customer.
